Once everyone had eaten breakfast, they all headed down to the ocean.
Auto picked a perfect spot a few feet away from the water, and they all set up. Denali annoced she was going for a walk, and that anyone could join her. Auto and Falco came with her, while the others stayed put.
"This is a really nice beach." Denali complemented on the way down the waters edge.
"Yeah, totally." Auto agreed.
"Got that right. Hey, wait a minute, do you guys see that?" Falco asked. They had reached a deserted spot on the beach, which was quite common, considering the fact it was still early.
"Yeah, I do." Denali replied. They were all looking at something way up high in the sky, which apeared to be falling. Before anyone had a chance to say something, the object in the sky suddenly slammed into a large sand dune.
"What on Earth was that?" Falco asked.
"I dunno, but I plan to find out!" Denali exclaimed before racing towards the dune. Auto and Falco ran close behind her. They saw nothing unusual there. At first.
"Where'd it go?" Auto asked.
"If my calculations are correct, the object would have hit the ground here….." Denali pointed.
"And….?" Falco asked.
"And, the sand in these dunes has been weakened by the hurricane, therefore, the object, (whatever it may be) should be buried in there." Denali concluded.
After a little digging, they finally pulled up a bright red owl!
Denali dusted the poor creature off, and gently lay it down in the flat sand. The owl was out cold, but only for a minute. Soon, she began to stir, and stood up straight, wobbling a bit on her dark yellow feet.
The first thing she said, obviously, was "Ouch." The owl winced. "My wing." She whispered.
Then, they all noticed something wet and dark driping down from the owls right wing. Blood.
Denali scooped up the owl in her paws, and ran back to the others. She suicjlt wraped qauze around the wound on the owl's wing.
"I did'nt know owls flew around here." Firefox said.
"They don't. We found this one on a sand dune, after she fell from the sky. She's hurt." Denali told her.
"Will she be ok?" Sonic asked.
Ask cocked his head, as if asking the same question.
"She should be." Denali replied.
At that, the owl groaned slightly, and tried to stand up. She swayed a little, and fell backwards. "Where am I?" She asked groggily.
"Definetly not in Kansas." Firefox joked.
Despite her pain, the owl managed to stiffle a laugh. "There's no place like home, there no place like home." The owl murmured.
Firefox chuckled as her gaze began to wonder. Her eyes laid to rest on Fox's tail, which seemed to have a burr of some sort stuck to it. "Fox, there's something on your tail." Firefox pointed.
"Huh?" Fox asked as he looked on the oposite side of his tail the burr was on.
Firefox sighed impationtly. There was a sound like ripping velco as she tugged the burr out of Fox's fur. Firefox held the little pointy seed which was covered in Fox-fur.
"Wonder how that got there." Fox said. Obviously, the burr hadn't hurt him.
Firefox shrugged and tossed the burr away while Fox scratched his ear with a paw. Suddenly, Fox withdrew his paw back quickly, for another burr had been transfered from his glove to the tip of his right ear. "Ow, it hurt. Someone, get it off!" Fox yelped.
Firefox reached up, and pulled at the burr. Fox whined and pulled back slightly.
"Ooo, sorry. Dang, it's really in there!" Firefox exclaimed. She was about to try again, but saw Auto sneaking up behind Fox.
Auto put a finger to his lips, and mouthed "Shhh."
Firefox nodded.
Fox had time to say "Why are you…." before Auto yanked the burr off his ear.
Fox opened his eye's side and jerked his head to the side like a dog dose when it's in pain.
Firefox managed to cover Fox's mouth before he could scream a foxes ear-piercing shreek. Firefox winced when she saw a couple pin pricks of blood forming on Fox's ear.
Denali gasped the second she looked up from the injered owl. "What happened?" She asked.
Firefox took her paw off Fox's mouth. "Fox got a burr stuck on his ear, so Auto took it out. Unfortunately, his ear's a little bloody." Firefox explained.
"Aw man, I hate those things." It was the owl. She was finally standing up straight. The owl grabed an ice cube from a cooler, flew very unsteadily up to Fox's ear, and gently pressed the ice to his wounds. "Hon, the best thing for you it to apply pressuer, and cold to it. This should feel nice." The owl cooed.
"Hon?" Fox asked, a bit confused.
"Yes, hon. I don't know your name yet, dawlin." Said the owl.
"Well, I'm Titanic, and this is Ash, Sonic, Firefox, Falco, Denali, Auto, and Fox." Titanic pointed to everyone after he said their name.
"And you are?" Denali asked.
"Phoenix. Nice meeting y'all, and thank you for saving me. Now, I should get goin'. Don't wanna over stay my welcome." The owl replied as she flew off Fox's ear.
"It was nice meeting you too, Phoenix." Denali smiled.
Phoenix smiled back, and began to lift off Phoenix got about three feet up in the air before she crashed to the ground.
Denali caught her, and set her back down. “Maybe you should stay with us for a while, untill your wing heals.” Denali offered.
“Oh….thanks…..but…..I need to…..get some….mice for…..breakfast.” Phoenix said between her frantic hopping attempts to get back in the air.
Denali scooped up the panting owl, and held her gently. “No really, come with us. Just untill your wing gets better.” Denali smiled and looked down at Phoenix. Suddenly, she spoted a long, jagged scar on Phoenix’s feathery face, that ran across her left eye. “What happened to your eye?” Denali asked.
“Oh, this? I got that scar when I entered your, uh, your world.” Phoenix answered.
“Like, how?” Falco asked.
“Well, I acually live on a far-away planet, where owls are the dominent species. One night, entered an unknown cave, which acually was a portale to, wadaya call it? Oh yeah, Earth. Once I entered…..Earth, I landed in a dark forest in the dead of night. I franticly flew about, but since I knew nothing of the terrain, I clumsily slamed into a large tree. I woke up on the ground, battered and bloody. Never did I see the light of day in this eye again.” Phoenix pointed to her left eye, which was clouded with blindness.
“That must’ve hurt.” Denali winced a bit.
“Oh-ho yeah, Madame Denali. Speaking of pain….” Phoenix jumped out of Denali’s paws, and hopped over to Fox. “Fox, right?” She asked.
Fox nodded.
“Hon, you have a pricker from that burr still stuck in your ear.” Phoenix pointed out.
“Really?” Fox asked.
“Yes. Here, alow me.” Phoenix hopped behind Fox, and crawled up his back using her beak and talons. Once perched on Fox’s head, she located the thorn, and clamped onto it with her beak. “This may hurt a little, hon; but it would be worse if we leave it in.” Phoenix said, who still had her beak on the thorn.
“Okay.” Fox said.
Phoenix bit the pricker, and with all her might, ripped it out of Fox’s ear.
“Ouch!” Fox yelled as he jumped up a bit.
“Careful down there! You’re going to knock me….” Phoenix began. But it was too late. She fell forward, helplessly flaping her wings. Luckily Fox caught her. He set Phoenix back down gently.
“Whew! What a close one!” Phoenix breathed. “Oh la-la, what a day! I ought to take a rest.” She added before she perched on the cooler handle.
“OK. We’re going in the ocean. Call us if you need me!” Denali called as she stood up with the others.
“OK.” Phoenix said. Once everyone was out of sight, Phoenix added: “That dosn’t make any sense.” to herself. Phoenix watched the others play in the ocean for a minute, before she drifted off to sleep.
Down on the beach, Firefox was watching everyone else leap around in the crashing waves. She was the only one who hadn’t been in the water yet.
“C’mon Fire, whacha waiting for?” Fox asked.
“I’m waiting for the right time.” Firefox replied.
“Chicken.” Fox teased.
“I know you are, but what am I?” Firefox asked.
“Fine, fine. I won’t force you in.” Fox said as he began to walk away.
Firefox signed. Suddenly, Fox ran up to her from behind, and scooped her up into his arms. He carried her into the oceans and held her in a wave. Firefox screamed and laughed out loud. Within seconds, she turned the tables and knocked Fox down, falling on top of him in the processess. They sat there laughing like the crazy love birds they were, leting the ocean pumle them with its pounding waves.
“Who are you, and what have you done with my sister?” Denali asked.
Firefox and Fox looked at each other, then back to Denali.
“I ate her.” Firefox joked before laughing.
Denali squinted. “You’re a strange little bird.” She said.
The group played in the ocean for a while, and then headed back up to their house for lunch. Firefox and Fox walked behind everyone else, with Phoenix hopping alongside them.
Fox had been looking straight ahead, deep in through. He smiled. “Hey, do you remember Krystal, from grade school?” Fox asked.
Firefox twitched uncomfortably. “You mean, Krystal the annoying little know-it-all who you asked to the eighth grade social instead of me so many moons ago?“ Firefox almost gagged at the thought of…..her.
“Right….her. Sorry.” Fox said, trying to change the subject.
“Whatever.” Firefox flicked her tail angrily before running ahead to Falco.
“Wait, you guys aren’t dating?” Phoenix asked.
“Yup. Not yet anyway.” Fox sighed as he watched Firefox jog up to the others.
“Oh. Well, what’s wrong with her?” Phoenix asked.
“She’s mad at me for talking about Krystal.” Fox replied.
“Oh, right. Too bad you aren’t together, together. You make a cute couple.” Phoenix thought out loud.
“Suure we do.” Fox said, his voice dripping with sarcasim.
“I’m serious. You do know she thinks the world of you, right? She’s gone mad with love, almost.” Phoenix told him.
“How do you know?” Fox demanded.
“She’s one ‘uh those bossy chicks who beats up on ones she loves the most, to hide her secret admiration. She’s supposedly weird that way. She just can’t bring up her true feelings of you, so she tries to cover it, or possibly hide it, by….roughing you up.” Phoenix explained.
“And always playing hard to get.” Fox added.
“Precisly. She’s a pretty one, she is. Better snatch ‘er up before somebody else dose….” Phoenix continued.
“Like who?” Fox asked her.
“That…Falco, do you call him? Yeah, he likes her, too.” Phoenix replied.
“Falco?! No way.” Fox said.
“Yes way. He’s too shy to admit it, and he hopes to be more than friends with the she-fox; Firefox Firefox dos’nt realize it. She just thinks of him as a good friend.” Phoenix stated.
“How on Earth do you know all this stuff?! You’ve only just met us!” Fox exclaimed.
“Oh, believe you me, dear, I know a whole lot ‘bout y’all.” Was all Phoenix reveled.
“OK, Miss Fortune Teller. What do you know about me?” Fox asked.
Phoenix stared at Fox, then thought for a moment. “You are a junk food-aholic, who tries to explain to everyone that all the extra weight you put on is baby phat that simply won’t go away. You are in love with Firefox, and have had a crush on her since you first met her all those years ago. Also, you and Falco are close friends, and have been for a very long time: since….” Phoenix’s voice trailed off as she read Fox.
“How are you doing that?!” Fox asked.
Phoenix’s good eye sparkled mischiviously. “A magitian never revels her secrets. But, I’m ot a magitian, I’m a sort of mind reader. I can see other’s pasts, futures, and even present thoughts, almost as if they were my own.” She exclaimed.
“Prove it. What am I thinking about now?” Fox asked.
“Hmmm, donuts.” Phoenix replied.
“Ooo, you’re good.” Fox said.
“Thank you, I’ll be here all day! Now, shouldnt we turn here? We would’nt want to miss your house. I know you’re hungry. I can tell you are secretly trying to stop your stomach from growling too loudly.” Phoenix said before hopping into the backyard of their house.
“Right….” Fox said.
Once inside, Fox followed Phoenix up to the kitchen for lunch.
“My dear, this ain’t the last time you are going to eat!” Phoenix squaked as she watched Fox eat.
“Oh, yeah, Phoenix, the one thing you need to know about Fox is…” Falco began, but was enterupted.
“I know. I read you always repete the phrase: “Fox’s stomach is like a bottomless pit.” Nice use of a metaphore, by the bye.” Phoenix said as she pecked over a chicken bone Denali had given her.
“How do you know that? Spot on, too.” Falco told her.
“All in good time, hon.” Phoenix smiled.
Before anyone could ask, Auto suddenly stood up. “Dudes! I have a raw idea! Let’s, like, have a party! Right here, right now!” He exclaimed. “Exept outside, near the pool.” Auto added.
Being the fun-loving twenty-somethings they were everyone agreed. There were enough tables and chairs, but some food and party lights were needed. (But why did they have a totally random party you ask? Well, A: Because this was an awesome place to have a part. B: Because partys are fun. And C: Because the auther wants them to have a party. That’s why. Now, carry on, por favor.)
