One of my entries for the 2023 MYO contest on the shiji-long discord server! I actually have not really ever painted anything, but I painted all of the food and drink on this reference. I did a few tutorials beforehand then painted the remaining food from photographic references! I can tell I was getting a bit better with each things I painted - can you pick out what I painted first? (The drinks in her hands don't count!)
Makani and Tahini own a small pop-up bar in Shengdao. They move around the tropical beach that borders the mainland, setting up for a few weeks at a time and moving with wet/dry seasons. They are father and daughter - and although Tahini was a bit of a wild-child during her first lifecycle, she has simmered down a lot as she matured and she grew quite close to her father, who raised her as a single parent. When he confessed he'd love to open a restaurant but didn't think he could do it himself, she offered to help manage the business and work as a mixologist. :) Makani is the quiet listener type, a large man with permanent smile lines carved into his face. He is gentle, but protective of his daughter. He often smells like smoke from the grill and is passionate about kebabs! Tahini is a former wildchild, a bit flirty but a talented mixologist with a great sense of flavor. She attracts a lot of business because of her demeanor.
Other fun facts... The bracelet on Makani's arm was made by Tahini when she was a child. She spent too long making it and it became too big, so he wears it on his arm now - much to her embarrassment. Also, their signs read "daily specials" but they quickly learned daily specials were too much for them to maintain - even though specials are weekly now they haven't updated the sign. ;)
