The heavenly smell guided Gyako over to the pile of fish. A large pile of golden and crisp pieces all oozing with juices. Zonos had really outdone himself and the purple cat sat back seeming content with his cooking.
"Help yourself," he told Gyako.
"I will," Gyako said already reaching for a piece. It smelled so much better up close and looked so good that eating would ruin this, this masterpiece, but he was starving so he took a bite.
It was amazing. All the flavours complimented eachother so well, it had the right amount of charring to make it crispy but not burnt, seasoned just right, everything made him love eating it. He took another piece, and another and another.
"Preparing for winter are you...?" Zonos asked.
Gyako with his mouth stuffed tried to speak but only managed to get out an "It's soooo good."
"Like I said, I always cook to perfection..."
Dinner was a hit and the three cats at until the bodies couldn't take anymore. The fish was so big that they had some left overs which Zonos put in a bag, which he just casually had, in case Gyako and Taiyka got a bit peckish on their trip to Wikari. The rest of the night was spent with them laying on their backs by the campfire looking up at the forest ceiling lightly conversing and getting to know eachother better.
"I have never tasted something so amazing in a long time," Gyako said looking to Zonos, "where'd you learn to cook."
"Nowhere..." Zonos responded with a yawn.
"Really? Surely you were taught by someone great."
"I was self taught..."
"But how?" Gyako said confused.
"Necessity of survival..."
"Normally cats trying to survive don't cook five star gourmet meals," Taiyka chimed in.
The purple cat smirked a bit, "I try to make surviving more fun..."
"You should open a restaurant in Wikari, we need more of those," Taiyka said.
"So you can steal my fish?"
"Noooooooo... mayyyyybeeee."
"Speaking of Wikari," Gyako said looking at Taiyka, "what's it like there?"
Taiyka looks up, "It's big, there's lots of houses, cats, many things to do like shopping and ummm, I don't know, how do you describe a town?
"No I mean how's living there, how's life?"
"Pretty fun I guess, I have a few friends and like to mess around a lot. Did a bunch of dangerous things as well. Yeah, people don't like us very much," her tone shifted and an annoyed look came over her face, "but ever since my brother-"
"You have a brother?"
"Yeah don't interrupt, ever since my brother became one of the town's guards he thinks he's the king of the world. Always telling me what to do, always saying "Taiyka don't do this and don't do that, stop stealing and playing around, go do something with your life, do something good like me," annoying twick."
Gyako didn't know how to respond to that.
"What about you greeny," Taiyka said putting the attention on him, "what's your story?"
"Right, well," Gyako hesitantly started, "growing up in Palas was pretty quiet. It was a small town and not many people lived there. I didn't have to many friends my age as all the others where either too old or too young. The kittens were fun to be around though. My father was an adventurer and he would always tell me stories and show me pictures he drew from his trip. He was very good at drawing. I always wanted to go one one with him but since he died that never happened."
"I'm sorry," Taiyka said giving him a sad look.
"It's alright, I'm okay," Gyako reassured her, "so since then I've been helping mom and saving enough to go on my own, and well here we are today."
"Pretty humble" Taiyka nodded.
"Well Zonos, the floor's yours, where are you from?"
No response.
Gyako looked in the direction of the purple cat, "Zonos?"
He was fast asleep.
"Well I guess that means it's bed time," Gyako joked, "We better get some sleep."
"Okay mooooom," Taiyka remarked.
With that the two of them got confortable and drifted into a deep sleep.
