Gyako agrees to follow Taiyka on her short excursion. They pass through some alleyways with some small clothes like bandanas and hats hanging on lines that stretch across the houses. Gyako didn’t feel unsafe around Taiyka and he somewhat trusted her, even though she robbed him in broad daylight. Soon they enter a much more open area with few trees and houses with a large structure in the middle.
“She should be right up there,” Taiyka said motioning towards the tower.
The tower was around five stories tall and made of stone. Small arch windows went up its outside wall and a wooden roof at the top. No doubt it had a great view of the town. Gyako gawked at its sheer size.
“Hehe, that’s one of the old guard towers from when the town was being built, Taiyka explained, “I’m guessing you don’t have those at your home either?”
Gyako shook his head. Everything in this town seems so much bigger than everything back in Palas. As the two cats approached the tower, they heard a girl’s voice coming from the top.
“Who goes there?!”
Gyako looked up to see where the voice was coming from and immediately met with a rock that bounced off his nose. Gyako fell to the ground a bit dramatically from the sudden shock.
“Hey what was that!” he yelled holding his nose.
From the top of the tower, the small head of a black kitten with orange cheeks appeared.
“Ha! Bullseye!” she taunted, “I’ve got more where that came from!”
The kitten was about to throw another rock when she noticed Taiyka next to Gyako.
“TAIYKA! YOU’RE BACK!” she squealed as she leaped from the tower and landed on Gyako’s back just as he was getting up. She hugged Taiyka closely giving off little purrs. “Where have you been?”
“You know, around doing crimes,” Taiyka joked, “I met this guy here, this is Gyako, Gyako this is Erilia.”
Gyako finally got his composure again and greeted Erilia with a gentle hug. Erilia was very small almost half of Gyako’s size. She looked to be about 3 or 4 years old. She had two small grey horns and tiny wings with orange stripes and scales down her back. She was a sky dragon cat.
“Oh, you’re a flying dragon cat as well, you’re very cute,” he tells her.
“Aww thanks,” Erilia says looking down blushing up and rubbing her paw.
“You were playing in that tower by yourself right, are your parents nearby?”
Erilia’s happy face turned sad very quickly and she looked down, “No, I don’t have parents anymore.”
“What, what do you mean?”
“They abandoned me; said I was defective.”
“Defective, how?”
“Erilia can’t breathe fire like the rest of us,” Taiyka explained, “also her wings are too small for her to fly. She’s pretty much a normal cat. I guess her parents thought that it would be a disgrace for her to live with them.”
Gyako was shocked. How could someone abandon their child like that? Just because she was different and could not use her abilities. That was not right.
“She lives at the local orphanage,” Taiyka continued, “but I bust her out from time to time to have fun. It’s better for her, gets her away from all the bad people.”
“The other kittens make fun of me,” Erilia mumbled.
“Wait so,” Gyako interrupted trying to make sense of the situation, “You break her out of the orphanage and let her do the mischief you normally do?”
“Yep,” Taiyka nodded, “I taught her well.”
“You’re a bad influence.”
“Yep.”
Gyako gets down to Erilia’s level and holds her, “Hey there, listen. Everything’s going to be ok, can we be friends, I won’t abandon you.”
“Promise,” Erilia said holding up her pinkie.
“I pinkie promise.”
Erilia jump on Gyako and hugged his head, “Thank youuuuu! You’re gonna be my big brother!”
“Wait wha-,” but Gyako was cut off by the sound of a little stomach rumbling.
“Oh poor thing you must be hungry,” he said, “Don’t worry I think Zonos can whip us something up real quick. Right, Zono-.”
Zonos was nowhere to be found.
“What he left, I thought he wanted to come on this adventure.”
“Hmmm I guess he had enough of us,” Taiyka said, “But if you guys are hungry, I know a place that sells some good curry. You guys are gonna love it.”
