The Wikari tour is now on a break for lunch as little Erilia’s stomach has been very vocal about its emptiness. This new trio of Gyako, Taiyka and Erilia made their way to the inner parts of the town. This area was much different from the residential areas they were before. Many shops and stores lined the road selling clothes, hats or bandanas and others sold trinkets. The buildings themselves have gotten a bit taller and the wooden structures have been replaced with stone and brick and painted in nicer colours.
The road soon opened up into a large paved area. Gyako did not need any hints that this was the town square. Around the square’s perimeter were many food shops and taverns where cats very making merry among themselves with a couple of drinks. Kittens played games in the centre of the square and some cats relaxed next to the fountain which was the main defining feature. All the while many other cats were busy building tents and stalls and even a stage for tomorrow night’s festival.
On the square's north side was a large building made of the whitest stone. It had large stairs leading up to its doors. Large pillars layout on either side of its covered corridor. It was three stories tall and four in the centre point with a red domed-off roof completing its structure. Gyako could see soldiers walking up and down the corridor in from of the doors, obviously guarding whatever, or whoever was inside.
“Wow, this place is soooooo big,” Gyako said unable to contain his fascination.
“Yeah, that’s the founder’s house. Looks really out of place among the other building we have here,” Taiyka remarked.
“This place is amazing, I can’t wait for this festival tomorrow. It’s gonna be so fun.”
Taiyka led Gyako over to the food shop where they were planning on eating. It was a humble little shop called Tumba’s Place. It had cream walls and a little overhang to shade the customers when they eat. The seating arrangements were outside next to the counter where you would sit down, order and eat your food. Gyako and Taiyka grabbed their seats, same with Erilia who was almost too short to see over the counter. The delectable aromas coming from the kitchen made Gyako’s mouth water wanting whatever they seemed to be cooking in the back.
Soon enough, a large orange and white cat came out from behind a door and greeted his customers. He spoke in a slow and gentle voice.
“Welcome back, Taiyka. I see you have brought some new friends.”
“Hi Tumba. We’ll get two specials for me and my green friend here,” Taiyka started, “And a small chicken sandwich for the little one.”
“What’s the special?” Gyako asked Tumba.
“Oh, the Tumba special is curry chicken and potato with rice with some special sauce.”
“Oh that sounds tasty,” Gyako said licking his lips.
“That will be two gold pieces,” the shopkeeper said.
“Don’t worry I got it,” Taiyka said reaching into Gyako’s bag.
“Hey, that’s my mone-,” Gyako protested.
“Come on, you know I don’t have any money on me,” the red cat retorted, “Just this one time, okay?”
Gyako sighed and decided to let it slide. With Taiyka making Gyako’s necessary transaction orange cat shuffled back inside the kitchen behind. He shortly came back lumbering a large smoking pot on a table with wheels. He served them their food and Gyako did not wait for anyone before digging in.
“Mmmmmmmm!!!,” Gyako beamed, “This is so good! Like one of the best things I’ve ever tasted.”
And so it was. The curry was very flavourful with the chicken falling off the bone. The sauce had some kick to it and it all mixed together with the rice and potato well.
“Looks like you outdid yourself once again Tumba,” Taiyka commended.
Tumba smiled and nodded, once again grateful for some content customers. The three cats began to enjoy their meal when they heard some rather angry voices coming from behind them. One of them was specifically concerned with Taiyka in particular.
“There you are Taiyka! Where the hell were you, we’ve been looking for you for ages!”
