What's there to say?
D-Day was not a good time. Logan survived, and still credits the big round turret of the Sherman he was riding on with catching any shells coming his way.
It wasn't fun to ride on the back of that thing, but it beat walking.

How the others around him fared, he didn't know. In the haze of the assault, and the subsequent rapid deployments through Western Europe, he quickly lost sight of them.
All he could hope back then is that they'll return to their loved ones someday, just as he hoped he would.
