Wow! Kudos to the effort of the 20 Km commute. You must have a very strong back. The lights are definitely useful in the dark.
In learning, I spent a little time each day incrementally learning front-to-back balance with the use of side railings. Eventually, I would cast-off a pole or wall, see how far I can pedal, and count the number of walking-steps back. The last of the learning was involving varying slopes. There is nothing like shedding off the "training wheel".
