My friend and bandmate owns these classic old guitars, and I like both of them.
The Fender is a Sonic Blue 1963 Telecaster. Somewhere along the way, my bandmate got inspired to remove the original Fender pickups and replace them with a pair of Filter 'Tron pickups from an old Gretsch. I think that was a very good, clever modification; this little blue guitar still has the bite and twang of a Telecaster, along with the sweet, warm tone of the Gretsch pickups. It's a nice sonic combination.
The Gibson is a beautiful, original 1964 ES-335 that my bandmate paid $250 for back in 1989. That was a very good investment; this lovely old cherry-red beauty is easily worth 30 times that amount now. Not that it's for sale, and I couldn't afford it if it was ha! At least I get to play it now and then...thanks, mate!

A Rick and a Gretsch, that's gorgeous! The one I tried out was a fireglo 4001 with checkered binding. Found out recently it was very rare! I walked into Sam Ash when they still sold Ricks and saw it hanging on the wall. Being heavily into the Beatles, I stood in awe of it and was invited to play it. My dorky 12-year old self felt like a rock star with that thing!
No, that's just reflection. The Fender is a bit beat around the edges, but the Gibson is almost like new, except that the white binding has aged to a cream colour and the nickel hardware has faded somewhat. A collector or dealer would still classify it as "near-mint".
