Gustav walked through the streets of the Kingdom of Parvus. Ever since Zizaly had managed to take her growth power to new heights and evolve it into size manipulation, she had gone out of her way to show both him and Okeana how the process was done. In no time at all, the two of them evolved their abilities ten-fold as well. Now, they also possess size manipulation after multiple trial and error tests. Once Gustav and Okeana possessed their own version of size
manipulation they both set out to give it a test run. Okeana had stomped off to go find herself an island of her liking. Saying that she was going to make it her own and then grow it proportionally to house herself. Gustav meanwhile wanted to try something a little more mundane. For his standards.
Normally he would be way too big to visit any human city due to his vast size. But now that Zizaly had shown him how to go further beyond with his size magic, he could simply shrink himself down. Concentrating hard, Gustav, for the first time in his life, felt himself contracting. Getting smaller and smaller until he was about three meters taller than the average human. He felt ecstatic! Now he can finally visit a human city. He could see what goes on in those little establishments. Where humans got their food, weapons, and more!
Raising his head confidently, Gustav had strutted straight in through the front gates, much to the bewilderment of the guards who didn’t even bother to try and stop him. After all, there wasn’t much their measly spears could do against a dragon. And it wasn’t long before the king of Parvus heard about this.
“A dragon is here?!” he cried “Oh no, is it Zizaly? I don’t know if we could take another one of her giant hugs. The foundation of the kingdom might break!” he said desperately. The courier shook his head “No sir, I received word from the guards that this is a different dragon. Though like Zizaly, he too possesses the ability to make himself bigger and smaller,”
“Oh no another one!” The king moaned “At this rate the kingdom will become a tourist spot for dragons!”
The courier rolled his eyes before continuing “So far this dragon doesn’t seem to be doing anything bad. In face most have been saying he’s been extremely polite to the townspeople. As of now he just seems content to simply look about the kingdom.”
“Oh…” The king cleared his throat awkwardly “W-well as long as he isn’t causing any trouble than I don’t see any harm with this,” he said “But just in case we
hould probably have a guard or two keeping an eye on him discreetly just in case,” he said.
Gustav meanwhile was full of awe as he walked around. Never would he dream of seeing a place like this teeming with life! The area he was in was called the markets. And it was here he discovered that humans were able to buy products and keep them. And the number of things they could get had such a vast range. From clothing to fresh meat, pots and pans, and so much more. The amount of things you could get here seemed to never end.
Gustav curiously inspected a clutter on ornament pots while the owner happily told him their value. “Ah! You have a good eye sir! The pot you are holding right now is an extremely fine
rafted one! Created by our best artisans. Do you see the intricate swirl patterns and the
diamond design on the outer rims? Truly they are fit for royalty!”
Gustav’s eyes widened in delight “Truly good sir?”
The vendor nodded enthusiastically “Of course! I wouldn’t lie to a great and noble dragon like yourself,” he said.
Gustav leaned in. It was a very pretty clay pot. Maybe he did need one? After all, why would the vender lie? Surely, he was an honest fellow. But as he opened his mouth to answer the vender and start talking prices, another voice chimed up from further down the road. And they said something that caught his attention “Come one come all! Here I have the finest pillows in the entire kingdom! Fit for peasants, commoners, nobles, and royalty alike!”
Gustav blinked, hearing a word he had never heard before coming from the next vender further down the street. Intrigued and mesmerized, he all but forgot about the vender he was already talking to.
“Wait sir!” the pot seller wailed “Don’t you want one of my high quality pots still?”
Gustav paid him no mind as he want to go stand with the slowly forming crowd over at the other vender. Taking his place in the back, he gave witness to several objects he had never seen before in his life. A bunch of rectangularly shaped objects what were rather thin but held a sort of buoyancy to them. And they looked rather soft.
Interested he turned his attention to the seller who was giving his presentation to the gathered crowed right in front of his stand “Come one come all! Ladies and Gentlemen! Boys and Girls! Children of all ages! Feast your eyes on the most spectacular product in the kingdom of Parvus! The man said, tossing the rectangular object into the air with a flourish and catching it. “This here is one of the best and well crafted pillows in the entire kingdom! And for a limited time only you can get yours for a discount!” he said.
As the crowd murmured amongst themselves at the merchant’s words, Gustav spoke up from the back “And what exactly is the purpose of a…pillow?” he asked. The merchant turned eagerly towards the voice, but instantly paled at the sight of the large muscular dragon standing at the back of the crowd “Uh, well you see sir,” he faltered “The purpose of this product is purely for relaxation. You know, to get a good night’s sleep and such,” he said “Or, after a long day at work
and you come back home you could just catch a good nap and rejuvenate the soul,” he said. Gustav felt a small smile begin to prickle across his mouth. Comfort where ever he wanted? Easily movable and able to bring it back to his cave? This sounded like something he could get behind. Gustav glanced around the nervous merchant to examine the various pillows behind him in his tent. There he could see various other pillows the merchant had in stock. Ranging from size and quality.
But there was one in particular in the back that caught his eye.
“I wish to buy that one in the very back,” Gustav declared as he pointed to the pillow he wanted.
The merchant followed his gaze and went pale as he realized which one Gustav had selected “T-t-that one?” he stuttered. Gustav was pointing at the biggest and most comfortable pillow he had in stock. The one that he was supposed to sell to the king! But, he couldn’t just deny the dragon. What if he got mad? He could burn down his business in a second!
Having no choice, the merchant gulped before reluctantly saying “O-of course you c-c-can have it sir. In fact, you can have it free of charge,” he said quickly, rushing back to the tent and hurriedly bringing it out.
He presented the pillow to Gustav with a small bow of his head “Here you go sir, it’s all yours!”
Gustav took the pillow, astonished by how soft the object was. He was almost tempted to set it down on the road and curl up for a good nap there. But he had other plans for it first. He thanks the merchant graciously, leaving behind a large sum of gold coins for the merchant because of his obliviousness to prices of goods humans sell, and flew out of the Kingdom of Parvus.
Once Gustav had made it to his secluded hideaway/home in a meadow, he was eager to simply plop down and nap. But first, he had to accommodate himself now that he was back home. Gustav flew up into the air and concentrated, expelling his magic outwards and onto the pillow, causing it to grow right before his eyes until it filled up the entire valley. Once he was done with that, he was next.
Gustav soared down and landed in the middle of the soft ground, marveling at how smooth and comfortable it was. He slowly began to expand his size, reaching several hundred meters high. Now that he was back to normal, he could finally lay down and sleep.
Gustav plopped down onto the pillow, making everything over miles shake from the force and curled up. “I can get used to this,” Gustav thought with a sleepy smile. If this was something humans had in their little markets, who knew what other marvels he could find next? And thanks to his new ability, he planned on finding out.
After his nap.
Or several on this extremely comfortable pillow.
And meanwhile back at the Kingdom of Parvus, the king’s eye twitched as he heard about the news from his guards reporting back to him “What do you mean my pillow is gone? That new dragon bought it before me?! NOOOOOO!!” he cried out.
