Aethira Ishi'Rai.
Master of Arcane Knowledge. New Star of the Academy. Disappointment of the Clan.
Ishi'Rai's Claw is a direct competitor to Shaid'Ran's Claw, what with merit and influence. Unlike its warlike red brethren, the Claw of Ishi'Rai has held a prominent position since the rise of the Old Empire, and has been a stalwart of the Claw of Nor Feiram, the ruling Clan of all Draconids and Dragons. Many prominent figures and administrators came from the Claw of Ishi'Rai, and their priests and sorcerers were coveted by all organisations in the Empire. All of this allowed the Claw to amass such untold treasures that even the most greedy of Wild Red Dragons would have thought it unnecessary. Moreover, this family managed to preserve and multiply their wealth by investing it in the promising piece of land where the Undercity and the Academy now stood. It was with their help that the port was built and the Harbour founded, and the extinct ancient volcano became the new capital of the entire Draconid society. All of this might place Ishi'Rai even above the Lord Regent and the other Claws, but loyalty to Draconid traditions and society is the foundation of their beliefs.
Aethira was to inherit her father's mantle and take control of the Claw. She learnt the ways of the Green Clan to perfection and met the Dragon Guardians of the Garden of Dreams. When the time came, she continued her studies at the Academy to drink the wisdom of the world. The older members of the Claw of Ishi'Rai considered it a worthy practice for the younger members of the family. Had they known the consequences...
At the Academy, Aethira met Asterion and Maraan, and became a student of Lord Solaris himself. Under the influence of her inner circle, Aethira's attitude and views gradually changed. From an obedient daughter who proudly walked the path of her Claw, Aethira slowly transformed into an obsessive researcher of ancient knowledge. The point of no return was a two-month expedition organised by Lord Solaris to an Old Watchtower from the days of the Empire. They did not return from there until four months later. What was supposed to be a practice outside the Academy turned out to be a disaster and a horror for everyone but Lord Solaris and Aethira. Who knows what she was able to see in those centuries-old, overexcavated ruins, but she managed to interest and convince Lord Solaris to change the original purpose of the trip. A large-scale excavation was organised, and masters of all sorts were called in from the Undercity and the Academy. As a result, the mages dug and dismantled the Tower down to its foundations and much deeper, where an armoury and several sealed rooms were hidden. Everything was opened, described and taken to the Academy, where Aethira, Lord Solaris and a few other interested individuals began the next part of the work. And the unfortunate students and other members of the expedition that had unexpectedly toiled for those four months, sluggishly returned to their daily duties. They were thanked and given an unscheduled holiday for two days...
For four years the work in the Academy's workshops had been simmering. Other Masters, Craftsmen and their apprentices were involved. The Supreme Master himself, the dragon Maliek, was so impressed with the results that, against his custom, he even contacted other dragon mages from the Cradle of Claws. And the result was worth it...
The Mirrors of Enhem, magical artefacts from the heyday of the Ancient Empire, had been rediscovered and revealed to the world. Small and large, all the Mirrors were complex magical artefacts capable of opening passages through area and transporting living beings and objects over any distance. The art of transference or teleportation had always been the domain of the Gods, only a few magicians and sorcerers were able to replicate something like this, and they were the only ones who could use this skill. Mirrors, on the other hand, could be used by anyone, even non-magical mortals. In the Old Watch Tower was kept the collection of a certain court mystic, hastily removed during the Civil War. Although the Mirrors were inactive and completely inert, Aethira managed to awaken them and even copy it! The mere discovery of such a treasure would be enough to be immortalised for centuries, but the mere fact that someone alive today was able to use it was a miracle. Aethira had attained Craftsmen status as an apprentice, and her family suddenly realised that their daughter had chosen a different path in life. Although they were officially happy about her success, they were disappointed, and Aethira realised it...
Sometime after this legendary discovery, a terrible tragedy struck, claiming the lives of many and the Supreme Master Maliek himself. Asterion, hastily elected to the position, first established Aethira as Master of Arcane Knowledge. Though detractors whispered among themselves about the close relationship between Aethira and Asterion, no one else in the Academy was surprised. Aethira used her family's connections to mount several more expeditions deep into the jungle. Many of them paid off, and bits of ancient knowledge found a home again. Aethira became a rising star at the Academy, and by her example she attracted many young and hungry for knowledge. But the Ishi'Rai clan had seen many bright and bold stars, and they were not the reason the Claw remained at the top for centuries. For loyalty to society and tradition is everyone's duty, no matter how high they stand above others.
«And the Great Cosmic Serpent fell from the heavens, and it split the Hammerhand God. But he despised death, and with his last blow he left his Star Brother a wound....
Who worked on this fragment? What do you mean this was melted?! I said no magic! Act with tact, subtlety, and skill!!!»
