Oy! It didn't take long to go broke. I gotta re-learn the thrifty habits I had before employment, plenty quick. Can't live like there's another paycheck coming, because there ain't.
Reminded me of the little prayer I offered up to Scrooge McDuck, a decade or so back, when I was preparing to travel overseas on an extremely tight budget.
Y'know, I think the saints that peasants prayed to in olden times have been replaced by more modern names, but it's the same dynamic: I've referred to the "benign hand of Darwin" scooping morons out of the gene pool, and we all know that "Murphy never sleeps". By Einstein and Feynman, I think I've got it!
Oh, and comix + commissions are still available, natch. Every dollar counts when you really ARE a starving artist!

In red states like Texas and Arizona, you are only eligible if you are "laid off." If you are fired for any reason, you can be denied unemployment. I live in Texas, I've heard the stories from people who have been denied firsthand, and Arizona denies unemployment insurance payments if a person is "fired from the last job for misconduct." But I've also heard from people who have had decisions overturned, so it wouldn't hurt for Karno to file a claim and argue his case.
Fired for cause is usually grounds for denial, yeah.
I lived and worked in Arizona in the 90s, so I know how tough that can be there.
But a case like this is sufficiently questionable that it can be argued.
Being denied a chair for a position that does not require standing, simply as a "boss authority" requirement can be argued as a health issue.
(Especially since Karno is a heart surgery recipient.)
It costs nothing to at least try, so its worth a shot.
A hundred to a hundred fifty bucks or so a week makes a decent cushion while looking for another job, thats for sure.
And they take it out of your paychecks in the first place- So its not like its welfare or something.
I'd say if you qualify, you deserve to get a little of that money back.

It's always nice to meet your heroes. I'm lucky enough to have met and gotten an autograph from Martin Nodell, and I get too meet Ben Dunn and Fred Perry once a year at project A-Kon.
On a related note, I took a nap after posting this, I was reading stuff about Carl Bark's work and the Donald and Scrooge's family tree. and had a dream that I was discussing genealogy with Donald. It wasn't entirely clear, but I remember giving him a modified version of my last name "Seebass" because I didn't want to be a anthropomorphic fish, knowing the tendency for duck artist to do "dogfaces" it was most likely "Seebasset." After that the dream switched gears and was related to the latest issue Gold Digger. I must admit, I can have some pretty cool dreams.
