CHAPTER 60
Rockshie comforted Esteban for a long time, keeping him attached to her. Hir developed sense of empathy told her that he needed company right now, just as shi had with Lorna at the hospital. Esteban, for his part, only allowed himself to be carried away by the softness of hir skin and the comfort that the chakat generously offered him.
After a few minutes, the engineer stopped crying and remained in silence against Rockshie's chest. Chakastra had already entered completely under the sea and the stars, together with the moons of Chakona, began to cover the sky.
Rockshie was willing to stay with him as long as it took. Shi was moved by what Esteban was feeling at that moment. Suddenly, the boy declared.
"Rockshie, do you believe in destiny?"
“Hmmm… I don't think about such things much, honestly. I just live enjoying each day, as if it were a gift. I enjoy the sea, my work and the people” replied the chakat.
“I wish I could see it that way, but it's hard when my whole life has been a fight to be okay. Since I was a child, on Terra and now here in Chakona. I was about to die several times. And the worst thing is that my misfortunes have dragged the people I love, my parents Renzar and my friends, into pain. Sometimes I think I should never have come here. I don't mind suffering, but it makes me feel very bad when others also suffer because of me."
"Esteban! Don't say that! If others suffer from your absence it is because they love you. The love and pain that we all experience is a consequence of being alive!”
Esteban remained silent for a moment. Rockshie took his face in hir hands and looked at him tenderly. The boy seemed to lose himself in the great eyes of the chakat, as dark as night. Rockshie felt hir upper heart race as shi took a deep breath. Then shi slowly brought hir nose to his mouth and began to kiss him. Esteban, still with tears in his eyes, was carried away by that warm display of affection. They both pressed their lips together tighter as their tongues touched tenderly. They breathed in synchrony, while their hands caressed each other tenderly. After that intense moment in which both merged in a single breath, Rockshie declared blushing.
“Oh, Esteban… I… I'm sorry… I shouldn't have done that. Forgive me."
The human, also blushing, answered.
“Rockshie! I'll just say that… that kiss was better than that, at Faise's house!”
The chakat, relieved that shi had not offended the boy, responded.
"Esteban! Well… On that occasion I was drunk. But I remember that kiss very well. I…"
“There is nothing to apologize for, Rockshie. Thanks for that. You are very kind” Esteban said, looking at the chakat with a smile. The lifeguard wiped the boy's wet face with hir soft fingers and pressed him against hir chest again. Shi clearly noted a relief in Esteban's emotions. And just like in hir daily life, the chakat felt that with that kiss, shi had rescued him from the sea of sadness.
“That's what you did, Rockshie. Thank you!" Esteban suddenly said, looking into hir eyes. The chakat was surprised that the boy managed to capture hir thoughts. Both continued embracing in that place until late at night, illuminated by the stars and the moons of Chakona. Neither the cold wind nor the humidity disturbed the peace and tenderness that existed between the two.
Meanwhile, at the Chakona Gateway, Lieutenant Ugkar Skunktaur had been cleared by the medics to get up and leave the medical unit. After several days immobilized to help hys wounds heal, the skunktaur was relieved to finally be able to stretch out hys legs. Hy put on hys regulation uniform and went for a walk through the corridors of the station. Shortly after walking, hy came across a group of federal officers of different species. When they saw hym, they all came up to hym to greet hym and congratulate hym on capturing Faise. Ugkar felt a little uncomfortable, since hy was not used to this type of treatment, although hy also felt some pride in what hy had achieved. At least hy would have something important to tell Aldorah when hy returned to Vika.
As hy continued to walk calmly, hys mind focused on Lilethe. Looking at Chakona through a large window in the station, hy tried to capture the thoughts of whoever had once been hys denmate. But it was all in vain. Ugkar felt nothing but emptiness. Worried, hy decided to ask hys superiors for authorization to visit the hospital again. Hy was concentrating on it, when suddenly, turning a hallway, hy came face to face with the officer Carm, who on previous occasions had been unpleasant to hym. Ugkar pretended to ignore him and continue on hys way, but the Voxxan stopped hym.
"Wait, lieutenant"
"What do you want this time!" growled Ugkar grudgingly. Carm, after sighing, replied.
“First, I apologize to you for my behavior. And second… congratulate you on the capture of Faise.”
“Meh. Apology accepted. Bye!" Ugkar replied before continuing on hys way with hys tail raised. Carm didn't dare say any more, for he knew the sullen temper of the skunk. So he just put his ears down and also kept walking without looking back.
Relia the polar bear arrived early that morning at therapist Brianna Weir's office. All this time, she had been very rigorous and punctual with her visits. This time, she came alone, dressed in a striking blue dress, gray shoes, and a wide-brimmed hat.
Brianna Weir, the artic foxtaur, was eagerly awaiting her. Shi knew that Relia had greatly improved her self-esteem, and shi was glad for that.
“Welcome Relia”
Thank you Brianna. Today I came early because I have to go to the immigration department to legalize my permanent stay in Chakona and in the afternoon, I have a job interview!”
“That's wonderful Relia! I'm really glad” Brianna replied wagging her tail.
"Yeah. And I owe a lot to you. Your advice and exercises to improve helped me enormously.”
“Relia. It is you who has done all the work. I just guided you a bit. You should be proud of yourself” She said the white-furred foxtaur taking her hands. They both hugged each other warmly. Brianna then began the session with Relia, this time exploring her psyche through therapeutic hypnosis.
After a few minutes of relaxation, the polar bear fell into a state of semi-consciousness. As Brianna instilled positive vibes in her, Relia's thoughts drifted unexpectedly to the large, dark figure of Droquen. That made her smile, although at the same time, she filled her heart with nostalgia for her, because she knew that the great Renzar, the savior of her life, had left forever. Brianna, noticing her gestures on her face, asked.
"What do you see, Relia?"
“To Droquen!”
“Hmmm… That friend who saved your life?”
"Yeah. He's so cute, Brianna!"
"I see. You miss him, right?"
"I wish he was here" Relia replied with a smile.
“If he awakens nice feelings in you, it's good that you visualize it, Relia. But at the same time, you must let him go, if you know that he will not be with you anymore. Just as you let go of many ballasts from your past, don't turn Droquen into something that can cause anxiety.”
“I understand Brianna. It's just…” Relia said with a sigh, sitting down on the edge of the sofa.
“Relia, I understand how you feel. Have you ever fallen in love?"
“I have been with many males, but I have never had a serious affective relationship, or something similar to what humans call love. But Droquen, my feelings towards him are different. I don't know if what I feel is love, and I don't know if it's good for me” Relia said.
“Those feelings are fine, Relia, as long as they don't turn into an obsession. And I'm sure you're strong enough to stop that from happening. I trust you” Brianna declared with a smile, before resuming the session.
Meanwhile, across city, Regthar had woken up again in Esteban's room. Still with his neck bandaged from the injuries sustained in the fight with Grosh, he looked around and saw that the boy was sleeping tight next to him. The Renzar smiled and stroked his hair. The human frolicked a bit before fully waking up.
"Good morning son. You were late last night!”
"Hello Dad. After going to see Lilethe, I was with a Chakat friend at the beach and it was late. Sorry."
"Esteban. I only ask you to use your PADD and tell us where you are… I…”
"Yes Dad. Forgive me for everything I made you suffer."
"What are you talking about, boy?"
“I know that you, Sorah and Natany, suffered a lot because of my absence. Above all, you. I imagine the pain you felt when they told you there was nothing else to do for me. I don't know… What can I do to make it up to you, Regthar.”
The Renzar, sighing deeply declared.
"Esteban. I'm not going to deny it. We suffered a lot for you. I thought I was dying when they told me you were probably dead. But I felt more pain knowing that this accident was caused by that bastard Faise. And worse still, that hy had hurt you.”
"I know dad."
"Listen to me boy. You don't need to compensate anything. It is enough for me to know that you are with me again, whole and safe. And that you will stay with us. What happened, it wasn't your fault. You and Lilethe had the misfortune to meet that monster. Fortunately that Stariionae appeared at that moment. Natany told me that the first rescuers who arrived at the scene the night of the accident saw strange lights in the sky, but they thought they were lightning from the storm. Grrr…Son…Sometimes I think you shouldn't have stopped me when we were fighting Faise. Perhaps the best thing would have been to kill hym and rid the universe of hym."
"I know dad. But that wouldn't give back the lives that hy took. Besides, taking hys life would have made you a murderer, by the laws of Chakona, not a guardian, as you might be in Grom. So I don't regret stopping you from killing hym. I love you too much to leave that weight on your conscience, and in your life." The boy said looking into his eyes.
“Grrr… Esteban. Come here!" The Renzar said suddenly, taking the human in his strong arms and putting him on top of him. Esteban leaned against his chest, looking at him with a smile.
"You are an incredible person. Who would have thought that you were inside a Stariionae. Do you know something? Having you as my son is one of the best things that has happened to me in life. I'm proud of you. Even if you're not a Renzar and you don't know how to practice Khudok, heh heh… I love you anyway” Regthar declared before wetting Esteban's face with licks.
"Regthar..." Esteban said, while a couple of tears rolled down his cheeks. “You are the father I always wanted to have. Thank you"
“Grrr… Come on boy. We have already shed many tears for you. Don't make me cry again!"
"Heh heh heh... I'm sorry, I'm sorry" Esteban hastened to say, while resting his head on Regthar's soft chest, feeling once again the beating of his huge heart that, for him, was golden. Regthar hugged him again and kissed his head. He was happy to have him back. After a few moments, he whispered softly.
“By Grom, we will also have Lilethe back with us very soon. I know that"
Esteban was silent and closed his eyes. He just hoped that his father was right.
