Chapter 22 - Lick Your Wounds

Flopsy really does not like spending time around Falk, due to that cigar smoke. Can't say I blame her, I wouldn't want to end up black and yellow. (Falk HAS been trying to cut down, and also only smoke outside, but Flopsy has a much more sensitive nose than the humans around her. Steps like that can only do so much.)
She's also getting pretty overwhelmed, with everyone wanting her to be in charge, be the expert, be the "Hero", be the one who knows what's going on. It's been building for a while, but now there's just so much being piled on her shoulders at once, and she just has no idea what to do. Maybe it's time she finally start reading these "comics book" things, see if there's useful advice in there?
Right before the convention, Zach sorta "volunteered" Flopsy to meet with his mom as "The Superbunny". Even though she didn't make the promise, she still feels kinda bound by it, so she went ahead with the meeting. Good news, she doesn't hate The Superbunny anymore! Bad news, she is really upset with that Flopsy girl. ...Yay?
We finally get to meet the mysterious Samantha! It was tempting to make her a real witch like her namesake, but in the end, I thought it'd be funnier to have her think she knows magic but not actually know it. She's just a sixteen year old girl, going through her wicca phase while also being a cowgirl in Colorado. "Goth Cowgirl" works surprisingly well, I think.

They're a good time to relax and think about things. Plus, I love trying to convey the physical sensations involved in a non-human body, so I'll give some extra focus to bits that differ more strongly. And showering with fur and hooves, or taking a bath when you're half the size and can fit comfortably in the tub, is one of those bits. ^_^
Oh gosh, poor Flopsy. From stressor to stressor. The brushing and ear rubs must have been nice though.
I can't help but feel this web of lies, of secret identities and alternate histories is going to come crashing down soon. Someone's going to get her on video, she'll slip up at the wrong time. She's not even realised that the only way they could have gotten her blood is from that kid stabbing her. I hope she'll be okay.

Hehe, but how could they have gotten that knife, when it's locked up in Evidence?
...What's that? Mr. Reid mentioned that knife was missing in Chapter 15...? Hmm...

Oh, well, if it's given back to his kid, surely that can't be it. ^_~
(I'm actually super glad you mentioned that, the first scene in the next chapter reveals how Project RabbitHorse got that knife. I've been sitting on that reveal for ages. I figured people would probably guess it, but it'll be nice to get to say the details.)
And oh yes, poor Flopsy is just racking up L's. It's nice to have a night with a nice meal and some nice grooming to help her relax. And to get to talk about things with Ben. Poor Anna just isn't used to this kind of treatment not being foreplay, though. ^_~
And what's the worst that'll happen if she is caught properly fighting on video, like will proooobably happen in Chapter 24? None of this "Fighting human thugs that go down in one hit" stuff, I mean. The world gets confirmation that The Superbunny is more than just a costume? Direct, undeniable confirmation that magic is real, put out on the internet for everyone to see?
I mean, that's already in a race against events in Ida Grove, after all. ^_~
