This is one of my latest pieces for a commission list of 25 pieces of art from one person, who also happens to be a friend of mine. He plans to make them my portfolio for a convention in June, so I need to more artwork and do it really soon.
Anyway, my friend and I have something in common, we're both fan of starwars. However I started to wonder if having a furry as a character for this legendary series would be a good idea... by the look of this piece, I think I'm right.
Anyway, I'd really like critique on this, and you opinion if Star Wars should've had a furry (besides Chewbacca) as a character.

I think this looks pretty nice, though you may get a fanboy backlash because he's "holding a lightsaber the wrong way", but you should ignore such comments. There's actually a surprising number of "furry" races in the Star Wars mythos, many of whom are quite prominent in the various literature avenues Star Wars has taken. There are Trandoshans, who are very much lizard people (one of whom, Bosk, makes a briefe showing in Episode V), and my personal favorite, to Togorians, large tiger people. Of course, there are quite a few others as well. I think due to the limitations in animations and costuming, it was easier to stick with as many human characters as they could. I mean, seriously, there are very few prominent non-human characters featured in the original trilogy at least (Sand People, Jawas, and Ewoks to name the most so, whith a few others appearing such an Mon Claimari and th Sullustian in Episode VI). Film wise, I suppose it's easier to relate to human characters, and so they stick with such whenever possible.
I've got most/all of the Star Wars Saga Edition rulebooks, and have an interesting selective memory. While there are a fair amount of "furry-ish" races out there, only so much can be shown in the movies. Also, the Gamorians are pretty much furless green warthog people (the guys guarding Jabba's palave).
There's also a feline humanoid, but they look more human than feline, though they do have claws and a few other feline features. There's also at least one canine like race as well.

Is there a race that wolfish in appearance. My reason for asking is because I've been focusing a lot on the aspect of making my own story regarding this character, though some major changes will have been made since this illustration was done.
After looking at it now, I feel kinda embarrassed at knowing I drew this compared to what I'm able to do now. I've learned a great deal since then. I plan on remaking character in this illustration when I can. I hope the remake will be to your liking as this is.

From my sources, without doing serious research, the two most "wolf-like" species in Star Wars canon are the Nelvaanians ( http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Nelvaanian/Legends ) and the Shistavanen ( http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Shistavanen/Legends ). The Shistavanen are the most usable for your purposes, I believe, as the Nelvaanians are a primitive race whereas the Shistavanen have joined the galactic community.
