On the one hand, you wouldn't think the head of security who's very self aware of having their own psychological issues would make a good therapist, but on the other hand, if you're stable enough, having an understanding of your own trauma seems like it can help with interfacing with another's trauma.
Also, when your purpose is protecting others, you either end up with "familiarity breeds contempt" or you come to care deeply about people. It seems she's leaning more towards the latter.
