Another thing made based on some loose writing project with somebody else. I may not be closely committed to it but I sort of enjoy it. Would you believe it's my first attempt at writing a loving relationship
A triumphant roar echoes in the branches nearby, followed by cheers : after a few unsuccessful attempts, Will and his sons have managed to get their shelter to hold. He high fives both of them, and looks up the hill looking for Dan; there he sees him, retreated and sipping on a beer. He climbs up to join him.
“Something wrong Dan?”
“Sigh... Will. You tricked me, didn't you...”
“I didn't lie to you, we're in the middle of the woods aren't we? A LAKE in the middle of the woods!”
“Loopholes, Will...”
“Come on, we'll catch fish all weekend. Your favorite!”
“Hmpf...”
He stands back, trying to determine whether or not the bear's actually upset and if so, how bad. He's not the best at reading emotions; Dan, for his part, is not the best at expressing them. Day after day, most of such navigating through states of mind would be done in a deep fog. But they'd always find each other in that fog. The failure of one sense made them hold on to each other in a more non-verbal manner, and that had been working very well for their relationship thus far. He reaches to circle around Dan's body; what starts as a somewhat shy inquiry is quickly turned into a hug.
“Come on, look how happy Nathan and Glenn are,” he points towards the lake bank where the two are playing ball by the tent.
“But Will.”
“What is it this time?”
“Will, your little plan backfired, because I've not packed swim trunks. Heh, guess I'm not gonna swim after all!”
“Oh don't worry about that, grumpy bear. You know, we'll get you in the water one way or another...”
While saying this, he had started removing Dan's shirt who, reluctant at first, finishes to get it off his arms. They also unfasten his shorts; the bear pensively lets them slip down.
“I got you covered. Now it's either that, or you'll be on cooking duty the whole weekend!” they snicker.
“Don't worry buddy, I won't let you down. We'll go as slow as you want. I just figured it would be the perfect time to conquer your fear,” he adds a lot softer. Dan looks down the hill at the camp. A bit dangerously close to the water, he would still say.
