Poetry featuring two beloved estranged men from my life inspired by a favorite movie of mine by the same name & the story within it of the feared black dog. 🛣🚛
Black Dog
By Lonelyrider
Did you see him?
Is that why you ran?
My home & my father
My love & my man
18 wheeler drivers
Truckers through and through
Sometimes I cannot recall
The difference from the two
They ran
They ran
As fast as they can
Away from me
Away from it all
They saw the black dog
They heard his fierce call
They flew
They flew
If only they knew
I loved them
adored them
worshipped them
deplored them
wait!
come back!
come home
no darling
no Dee Dee
I just have to roam
their engines screamed and their tires groaned
their jake brakes snarled
like the black dog's foam
The highway sang
the signs did glisten
they heard the black dog and they just had to listen
it happens to truckers
some young and some seasoned
they saw the black dog
and they lost all their reason
I want you both home
but they just had to run
they saw the black dog
he was more fearsome
than the slickest gun
oh but I love you
oh can't you see
I still hear them screaming
running from me
They really did love me
with all that they knew
but the black dog he tore them
he tore them
in two
