The newly alone Todd Baker was taking the day off. Taking time to do some housework which he had neglected to do.
Vacuuming, dusting, and what little laundry had accumulated.
Around 3 p.m. there was a knock at the door, it was Adriana the postwoman bringing a rather large package inside.
It was a bit bigger than a full-size coffin and it was addressed to Todd.
Todd: "I didn't order anything, what on earth could this be?"
Adriana: "No clue cutie, I just deliver it." She said blushing at the cute corgi. "Oh, I still have more deliveries to make. Take care you little corgi cutie!"
He waited until the odd doe had left before he looked around the box for a return address to figure out where it came from, finding only a logo he didn't recognize.
Todd: "Well, I guess the only way to find out is to open it. I hope this isn't a vampire or a mummy or something stupid, but I wouldn't be surprised at this point."
After an exhaustive search, he found a box cutter and got to work. Found inside was a note and another glossy box.
The note read: "Hey son, I know you haven't been doing well but I didn't want to say this to your face and embarrass us both, but I know how you probably feel. A break up ain't never easy, but just know that me and your ma love you very much."
Todd: "Break up? That was a couple months ago, did the package get lost?"
Continued in the note: "It ain't the same as the love of a good woman but it's all we got. Anyway I got you this to keep you company. Use it how you like, I know it ain't exactly flesh and blood but it'll keep you company. Signed your dad, Stanley Baker"
Todd: "Oh no, what did he do this time? I know he means well, but the last time he tried to surprise me I ended up in a full body cast." He sat there a minute or two, unsure if he should crack the lid and let out whatever was inside.
Figuring he could only delay for so long before his dad would be calling to see if he liked it.
Todd: "If it kills me it kills me I guess." He opened the box and found a completely stationary robotic canine with large breasts, thighs as thick if not thicker than his own torso, and a face that for a machine was quite pretty.
Todd: "This is... different?" Her green eyes sprung open as she sat up like a video game jump-scare. Todd reeled back and hid under the couch thinking she might be aggressive.
She got onto her knees and sat in front of the startled corgi: "Greetings master my name is Adlai, care for a hug? Sorry if I frightened you." She said opening her arms.
Todd: "Huh? Master? Oh uh, a hug would be very nice actually. But please don't call me that." As he got out from under the couch.
Adlai: "Yes master, afraid that is hard programmed into me. But perhaps it can be modified later on." As she pulled him in for an embrace.
Todd: "So uh now what do we do?" As he cuddled in for a hug, mildly worried about what she might do if he didn't.
Adlai: "Well master, I'm physically able to do almost anything you please. From housekeeper, to cook, general health care short of being able to perform surgery, and of course I can also be used for more intimate purposes if you so desire." She said stroking his back.
Todd: "Oh that's uh that's good to know..."
Adlai: "It seems your heart rate is up, do I excite you with that information?" She chuckled softly.
Todd: "No it's not that, could you please put me down now?" She then placed him back on top of the couch.
Adlai: "So what's my first command master? I'm happy to do anything, and I do mean ANYTHING to please you!"
Todd: "I have no idea, I'm not really good at giving orders... I do need to change the battery in the fire alarm, but I've got a ladder for that. I'm sorry Adlai, I'm just really low maintenance."
Adlai: "I see. Not much need of a robot helper then huh? Sort of neutralizes my purpose. Shall I print a shipping label to return myself so you can get your refund?"
Todd: "I don't know what to tell you on that, I didn't order you. My dad did, he thought I was lonely."
Adlai: "Oh? That does murky the waters doesn't it? Well was he right, are you lonely master?"
Todd: "Not really, I have friends... Not many but I do have some."
Adlai: "Anyone special? Like a romantic partner I mean." Todd didn't answer that one, afraid of giving her ideas.
Adlai: "It's okay if you don't master, care for some fun with me? Sort of a trial run to see if you like it?"
Todd: "No thanks, I uh I have some work to do around the house." Adlai: "Want me to vacuum the carpet, or get to work on dinner master?" Todd: "I actually have a roast in the croc-pot, so that's covered. And I vacuumed earlier." He said turning the temperature down slightly on the pot.
After a little while of very awkward silence from the both of them, neither quite knowing what to say to the other Adlai spoke up: "Well, would you like me to demonstrate some of what I can do?" She said pinning him on the couch.
Todd: "W-well I'm not sure about that... I uh... I'm not exactly sure what to do with a robot."
Adlai: "Well you can do as you please with me of course, I live to serve after all. I'm programmed to make you happy. After all master don't you deserve to be happy?" She said giving him a tender kiss. He quickly pulled away, unsure of what he was hearing.
Todd: "Honestly? I don't think I'm supposed to be. Every time I have been, something terrible happens to me. I I think it'd be better if you go help my mom and dad instead of me. They could use some help around the house, you would just go to waste around here Adlai." She looked at him, a bit disheartened and sat up. Adlai: "If that is what my master wishes of me, I shall obey." Looking a bit confused not having seen a sad robot before.
He answered her: "Look, I guess we can give it a shot for a few days and if it doesn't work out you can go with my parents. How's that sound?" Adlai sat up as her ears perked: "That sounds lovely master! I'll do my best for you! What can I do first??" As her tail wagged happily.
Todd: "Uh, maybe change the lightbulbs in the basement? It's kind of creepy down there without lights."
Adlai: "Aww, is my master afraid of the dark?" She said in a playful yet teasing tone.
Todd: "N-no, I just don't like it being THAT dark is all."
Adlai: "Good thing for you I have night vision master."
As she got to work downstairs, Todd wondered how badly this may turn out for him in the end.
