After some time on The Jewelled Fang, Ceri managed to earn herself the nickname ‘Near Miss’ thanks to both her general clumsiness, and her downright chaotic approach to life and the problems it throws at her. She’ll quite readily admit she should’ve died over a dozen times by now, and that her eventual death will probably be her own fault.
She doesn’t see as much combat as the average member of the crew, however by no means does that mean she doesn’t see any action. As per the nomadic lifestyle, back home Ceri was always getting into a fistfight with somebody. This hasn’t changed, but now, Ceri will also accompany her team into ‘official’ assaults, effectively as a field engineer (or hacker if the situation requires), but her role can also double up as a tank, thanks to her armour.
Ceri’s armour, at its core, is a damaged, out-dated, enigma power suit, which she has modded, upgraded, overclocked, underclocked and generally fucked about with, to make something that’s unique and her own (and something that isn’t so heavy that it would crush her if the armour were to run out of power.) When Ceri salvaged the suit, its reactor core had unfortunately either been removed or completely destroyed. Reactor cores are remarkably difficult and expensive to acquire for the legally-employed nomads, never mind the illegal ones. As such, Ceri’s armour is powered by numerous rechargeable batteries. The suit itself comes with built-in shield capabilities, which presents itself as a faint bubble at its base level, but can be expanded and projected out, but at a power cost.
Her power armour increases her physical strength, provides both physical protection and atmospheric shielding, and increases Ceri’s other physical capabilities as well, such as her running speed. There is a camera lens in her visor, which can be used to zoom in and out, and can also provide her with night vision. She also wears a pair of jet boots, which allows her to jump higher and hover in the air for short bursts.
The suit’s main colours: Black with a silver tint. The visor is also tinted so you can’t see through it. The batteries aligning the armour are a bright electric blue.
Armour Specifications:
The batteries powering the suit are about the same size as a small gun magazine. With the suit fully powered, the batteries allow around four hours of running time when used casually, but it isn’t perfect - there are inefficiencies with the power drain and power storage, and run time can vary quite dramatically, depending on where the power is going. For example, shield directioning will draw a lot of battery power, so there’s a bit of a knack to getting the balance right, especially when out in the field. In a high intensity fight, power could last for little more than thirty minutes, so Ceri has had to modify her suit to allow her to carry and swap out backups. Luckily, general physical movement doesn't drain the power very much, in comparison to something like the shields. She also has separate battery packs for her blades.
Weapons (when armoured up):
A small but sharp retractable blade in her tail.
Projectable lazer blades from both gauntlets in her power armour.
Semi-automatic 9mm pistol.
Alternating shield / shockwave utility grenades - these are small blue orbs of Ceri’s own design that activate on impact. The shield lasts for around forty-five seconds and can repel bullets and ranged attacks, but not close-up physical attacks.
Within the many chinks of her power armour, Ceri can also store various different tools she might need on the job.
Casual Weapons:
Even in ‘friendly’ territory, it’s never a bad idea to remain armed. Ceri’s pistol is by her side pretty much at all times when she’s not on the ship, but she also has an array of other weapons, including:
A personalised pair of knuckle dusters.
Two duelling blades in the back of a belt.
Boot knives.
