Although I missed the event last weekend, Every April the massive Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena has it's annual "Open House" festival. There, the general public is invited on Campus to see, and sometimes participate in demonstrations featuring the latest "High Tech" gadgetry used in the exploration of Earth, the Solar System, and Outer Space. This image reflects my first ever visit there in the Spring of 2001, and I'm sure my eyes weren't that BIG, but it sure felt like it.

That was the Chrysler "Turbine" that appeared on city streets around the late 1960s or so. I think at least four prototypes were made, and were driven thorugh major US cities to promote the Turbine engine concept. From what I understand the turbine engines got good gas milage on straight highways, but stop and go city driving tore the turbines apart. It was a good idea, and maybe a little ahead of it's time.
Yeah, THESE days it might work since we have a lot more knowledge of the concepts. I'd like to see something like that going around.
Speaking of cool comcepts I bet you know all about all these systems to convert used canola oil into diesel fuel. We have a customer who comes to my Deli and he gets all the oil he wants for free, and we're figuring out how we can try and lower the octane rating to make it usable in cars such as my gas guzzling 1969 Camaro (8 miles to the gallon and runs on a 50/50 mix of high octane and av gas.)

Use the gas turbin engine in a hybrid car. Say the 30 hp one moving part engine. http://www.windspire.com/jetpower/

Me, I'd put a couple of those on my tractor mower! Boy would that ever impress the neighbors! Then there's this...
http://www.almar.easynet.be/turbonique.htm The 1000 horsepower Turbonique Dragaxle! I just don't know if those Ford Quick Change rear differential housings can support that, but apparently they can at least for a while. Put one of those on like... a 1988 Dodge Omni! Putter around on the four popper and challenge some nitwit in his twin turbo Eclipse to a race for pink slips, shut down the four popper and fire that baby up!
