In which I suddenly actually give a shit about Nick Domnall, I guess. Somebody has to.

The more I think about it, the more I realize Nick is sorta the inverse of Nico--while Nico manifests a lot of anger and frustration with deep underlying sadness, Nick's deep sadness and depression has a lot of underlying anger and resentment and regret. I suppose that's to be expected for a character that came about as a sort of "what if" thing, maybe much like myself IRL he feels like he just shouldn't exist, like he's just not supposed to be.
The most troubling realization I had is that, despite wanting them to be best friends, it's actually quite likely that Nick Domnall actually hates, or at least deeply resents, Dominic "Skunk Boy" Mephitto. This also makes sense, as Skunk Boy did initially come from a place of self-loathing.
It also probably doesn't help that I dumped some random lore rambling in the description of art of Nick that very blatantly depicts suicide so nobody read it. My descriptions tend to either be just the character's name, a single sentence expressing some sort of existential emotion, a song lyric, or the most insane tl;dr rambling bullshit imaginable, and very rarely is the insane rambling in a place that anyone is going to read it.
Much like myself IRL though, Nick is probably used to being ignored and neglected, his catchphrases probably being "never mind", "it wasn't important", and "it's fine".
Anyways, fat cartoon animal person being awkward.

Emotionally, the ideas behind this are interesting, particularly the part where it would be nice if Nick was best friends with Skunk Boy but actually resents him. Given that thought process, I wonder if a good way of expanding upon that premise would be Nick secretly resenting Skunk Boy, but secretly hanging out with him because despite his contempt, it’s better than being alone and bitter. It’s like that old saying, “misery loves company.” 🤔
