Species name: Riptide Otters
Age of maturity: 17
Life Span: 80 years
Height Average: Male 4'8", Female 4'
Biology: While obvious to identify a Riptide Otter by their fur, they are also known to be different than a regular otter by some other traits such their throat pouch lack of scent glands. The fluids Riptide Otters secrete, such as spit or sweat, are very hydrophilic and can tamper with the properties of the water they always prefer to be soaked in. Their sweat tends to mix with water make them more slippery. Their spit on the other hand, tends to cause the water's freezing temperature to become much lower. So when they do spray water at someone in defense, there's odds that the person will be sprayed with water painfully more cold than expected. All of this does rely on access to water, and does result in them often drinking nearly their entire bodyweight in water every day.
Culture: With so much more time spend around and near water than an actual otter, as well as desperate need for water constantly, Riptide otters will often stay near the coast of landmasses or in rivers, as water is their greatest asset.
Mythos: Due to them spending more time in the water than other land-based mammals, it's believed they are also more adaptable to the colder temperatures that could fall over the area. Some speculate the otters in the more oceanic regions will hunt in the dark depths while ignoring the lack of light or heat.
