A commission for
ikaeru. His girlfriend has been playing the Pokemon Nuzlocke challenge, and Ferdinand the Butterfree was one of the first Pokemon she caught. Sadly he finally fell against Lance of the Elite Four. From what I've heard, it was a pretty awesome Butterfree and a very important part of the team! He may be gone, but he certainly won't be forgotten! :)

A Nuzlocke challenge is just something that people invented to make the pokemon game harder - the main rules are, you can only catch the first pokemon you encounter in an area, and if a pokemon of yours happens to faint, it is 'dead' - you have to release it or box it permanently.
Technically, no, they still can't "die", but there's this player-created challenge called a "Nuzlocke Challenge". There are varying rules, but the main ones are: You can only catch the first pokemon you run into in each area, and nothing more. You must nickname all of your pokemon. Any pokemon that faints is counted as "dead", and must be released ASAP.
Some of the varying rules are: You cannot heal at a pokemon center, you must use only potions (or the other way around, no potions whatsoever). Traded pokemon from another person are allowed.
There may be more, but those are what I remember off the top of my head. It sure makes the gameplay much more interesting, and helps you to bond with your pokemon much more closely.
