Verloren presented his research notes to his latest visitor as he described the process of pulling magic directly from a creature's soul instead of just the physical body, a concept that none had attempted before him. He had been explaining the exact same thing to several different people lately and more often than not he was met with disdain and skepticism. He was so tired of all these mages who seemingly couldn't embrace new ideas telling him that this was too complicated and irregular to be worth it. But he did not mind what they thought about his work and continued to discuss it with others when he had the chance, trying to find more folks who could have interesting ideas for his consideration. Verloren had heard about Hyden's impressive magic skills, and how he was particularly interested in darker magics. Would he be able to see the true potential of soulmagic?

As I already mentioned this turned out SO COOL... I can absolutely see why it took you so long, something this detailed looks like it would take a crazy amount of time and effort. I really appreciate you dedicating so much time to drawing our characters together, it's very sweet!
Regarding how Hyden and Verloren might get along: I think Hyden would find the idea of pulling magic directly from a soul quite fascinating indeed. He's always had a somewhat adversarial relationship with his own body due to poor health and has generally regarded physical forms as inherently crude and limiting vessels for what is truly important (the mind/intellect/consciousness). If there was a way to "skip over" drawing magic from the body and go directly to the soul, that would very much align with his interests and outlook on the world, validating his own belief that the physical form was "holding people back" in some way.
Theorizing over new techniques other, smaller-minded researchers thought impossible, bypassing the physical form, seeking new heights of magical power... all that is very much to Hyden's interest. I think he would like Verloren quite a lot. It wouldn't matter if Verloren was cold or rude or standoffish to him--Hyden's fondness for people is much more about how "interesting" they are to him and has almost nothing to do with how the other party feels. He can be rooting for someone and feel positively toward them even if they're actively trying to kill him just because he finds them entertaining or feels invested in their personal story arc, basically. He tends to take a liking to "underdogs" who are misunderstood by their peers, especially if the reason they are misunderstood has to do with being too smart or having interests too strange or morbid for the "common man" to appreciate. So Verloren having rough edges socially and not being the kindest and most open fellow wouldn't matter at all to Hyden (and may even make him more "interesting" specifically due to being more prickly and closed off).
He may initially be mildly annoyed by Verloren when he first solicits him for a meeting with him simply because it interrupts his very important schedule of lounging around his manor procrastinating on his own research and feeling sorry for himself. He's not used to "lower ranked" mages approaching him with anything worthwhile or interesting. But once he caught on to what Verloren's research really was, he would immediately become VERY interested. Interested enough to cancel his dinner plans and all his other meetings for the rest of the day... he wouldn't want to leave the meeting until he fully understood what Verloren was talking about... and what he needed to continue his research. :)

I'm so glad you like it ^^
It's more like... killing people for their souls actually. Kinda like Skyrim soul gems (wasn't my inspiration for this but I realized it's pretty close lol) Magic crafts need a person's own magic but also an external source of magic, and while the flesh/bone/blood have a limited amount of magic in them, a person's soul has infinite (in theory) as it's the origin of each person's ability to use magic. Using a soul as a source allows for some really overpowered crafts, such as permanently increasing a person's magic, which in turn may allow them to make even more overpowered crafts heh
I think this partnership could be really useful to both of them! As I've said before, I probably have more things to draw about this...

Oooh! That's what I get for not reading all the lore!
...Well honestly killing people for their souls is even better. He's certainly no stranger to drastic and dangerous magical experimentation in the name of increasing one's magical power, nor a stranger to magic that uses others' life force/body parts. And if that harvesting winds up being fatal... well, that's just too bad for them, isn't it? People say sacrifices must be made in the name of progress, and sometimes those are human(oid... furry... etc) sacrifices!
Yeah, this could be a lot of fun. :) I'm definitely gonna draw something with them too once Art Fight is over!
