Frisco Disco (Jeopardy! 1978 Closing Theme)
This is my simplified take on the song "Frisco Disco" by Merv Griffin, an accomplished singer/songwriter/composer more famously known as the creator of both "Jeopardy!" and Wheel of Fortune. The latter used it as a prize cue, while the former's brief 1978 revival with Art Fleming used it as the closing credits.
Unlike the original Art Fleming version, and the present version with Alex Trebek and today Ken Jennings, which followed the format we know and love (The Jeopardy! Round, Double Jeopardy! Final Jeopardy!, declare a winner), the 1978 revival made a drastic change in the format. After the Jeopardy! Round, the lowest-scoring player was eliminated, while the other two played Double Jeopardy! by themselves. The winner then played a bonus round entitled Super Jeopardy!, where the clues were randomized, and the played had to get 5 correct answers in a row either horizontally, vertically, or diagonally. Doing so won a bonus amount of cash or set prize. (All 3 players did go home with their winnings, a rule from the original Art era. Since Trebek became host, only the winner gets their winnings.)
This format didn't sit well with viewers, and so the show wisely went back to the original show with Alex Trebek.
My arrangement is for sax section (soprano, alto, tenor, baritone), vibraphone, piano, and bass guitar.
