Chuong: Playing cards used to be political centuries ago throughout Asia when the Europeans brought them there because one of the reasons was that they were associated with gambling. Japan had a brief period where playing cards were banned because they were brought over by the Portuguese for gambling if I remember correctly. And of course, in the Chinese city of Macao, the Portuguese helped open a lot of gambling vendors involving the use of playing cards.
Zax: I wonder how Leopoldo the Navigating Lion feels about this?
Chuong: The same with the other European lions of now former empires that brought them overseas, upset but it was something that couldn't be easily stopped at the time.
Yamazaki: Hanafuda were based on imported Portuguese playing cards in Japan at the time and yes, hanafuda was briefly banned before it was allowed again. If the ban were to continue longer, we probably wouldn't have Nintendo.
Chuong: I wonder how Ryo felt about the playing cards ban being lifted in the Meiji Era that contributed to Nintendo's growth.
Zax: Probably for the best since it's part of the Meiji Restoration.

*The other lions are present.*
Leo: Do they have these facts correct?
Ryo: They do. Nintendo did indeed begin as a playing card company, and look where they are now.
Super C: I totally forgot about that.
Cripto: So did I.
Leopoldo: And that is exactly how I felt.
