Again I am overthinking fictional media in my comics. So in Project MHS the villains, The Lawful Order of the Light, takes over people by a secret signal. In the OG version it's a secret television broadcast that speaks to certain parts of the brain (in the remake it's a phone app that does the same thing). People who are affected become obsessive and slowly mutate into monsters themed around whatever part of their mind was most susceptible.

In the movie, a fragment of that signal infects Oracle (a friendly AI based on the mind from the future version of their sidekick) and turns it evil. It then makes its own version of the app but enhanced with all of the future knowledge so that it takes instantaneous effect and the monsters are significantly easier to control.
