This is a character introduction from the visual novel I am currently working on. In the process of creating the characters and their backstories.

I am Verse Lockwood, a fox beastman from Solstaria. Once, our land thrived in harmony, but betrayal shattered the peace between humans and beastmen. Now, as a member of the Veilbreakers, I fight for our freedom. But unlike many, I don’t seek vengeance through bloodshed. I believe in compassion and understanding, though that belief often makes me a target of criticism, even punishment.
Don’t confuse my gentleness for weakness—I’ve fought my battles. I just believe there are other ways to win.
When I was 15, I lost my best friend in an attack. His death shattered me, and I’ve kept my distance from others ever since, afraid of losing again. His absence haunts me, and though I carry his lessons with me, I’m still searching for my own purpose.
For eight years, I’ve fought battle after battle, unsure of what I’m truly fighting for. I can’t live in his shadow forever, but I don’t know where to go from here. Am I meant to keep going through the motions, or will I find something—someone—to reignite the spark that’s been missing from my life?
