Deep down I've always 'really' loved a good cartoony style. Like even though I think/feel my own art has progressed more towards a bit more of realism, I've had times where I was all "I want to draw cartoony", and this picture here kind of reconfirms that want.
Great expression.

Oh gosh... I was originally inspired to draw by animals like reptiles, birds, bats, and fish... Then later I was inspired by cartoons like Earthworm Jim, Ren and Stimpy, Ed Edd & Eddy, Cow and Chicken, Angry Beavers, Invader Zim, things like that. I was also inspired early on by videogames like DOOM, Myst, Creatures, and Unreal, and by the Aliens series that I watched when I was around 5 years old. I would say H.R. Giger was a huge influence when I was really young, and he inspired me to think of every creature as a composition. My dad pushed me really hard to become better at drawing, and inspired me to critisize my art really brutally for a lot of years. For the longest time all I wanted was to impress him, and I never could, and it kept me pushing myself to do better. School though... that kept my pencil moving. I have really bad anxiety, and during school the only way I could get through a day was by blocking everything out and drawing. Never taking my eyes away from my work was how I survived, so it gave me reason. I eventually dropped out of high school because of it. Now I'm trying to make my living doing this, so survival and the idea of self-employment inspires me now, as well as my ability to satisfy anyone who buys from me. :)
That's pretty impressive. I am aware of Giger, I think he drew .. or was the designer for the Alien Aliens. I heard a lot of .. kind of sureal stuff. I don't know much more than that.
That's cool though that you're trying to use art as a means to fund yourself. Starving artist and all I know, but you definitely are making a splash on FA so far with your commissions. I think everyone I've seen recently they have been all googly eyed over.
I know anxiety can be pretty bad, and I could see how Drawing could help. I think one of the reasons I don't do it as often as I'd like is become of how solitary it feels sometimes.

He does a lot of very creepy biomechanical looking stuff, much of it is phallic or just generally sexual in nature. It's all very dark and moody, and it could probably all be considered surreal. Just do a google search of him if you're interested in knowing more, there's a lot of stuff that's been published about him, so he's very easy to research.
I'm very excited to see that I'm making an impact on FA so far! I can only hope it gets greater. I'm afraid I might have to raise some of my prices by a few dollars though, because I'm not quite making enough to get by. I don't like the idea of charging more, but it seems like I'm going to have to if I want to make a living this way. :c
I know what you mean. Sometimes I go to bed at the end of the day and I think "I just spent my entire day drawing, and ignoring everyone around me.", but it's still the best work I've ever had. Every so often though, I wish I had someone to draw WITH. It just seems other local artists are hard to come by.

Yeah your prices are cheap, and I think a lot of people understand that right now, and in some cases, more would be willing to pay more. Usually when a artist starts they will undercharge their service (it's great finding them at that point). You can probably look at other artists, and see what they are doing for art, you could even do a 'pay by the hour' thing that I saw WFA doing.
Yeah, I do miss it a little though.. you kind of get in the zone.. lots of creative stuff working, but I know Open Canvus is a fun online Multi Player drawing program. Not sure if you've tried it before.

I don't know if I would do a pay by the hour thing at this point. I could have done that before, but these days... eh. I find myself pregnant, so being able to sit in one spot and work on something until it's complete becomes more difficult. Because of that, I can't really say exactly how long each piece takes me to complete, so it would be unfair to charge by the hour. I usually just charge based on the amount of work that's involved. I think I would keep the cost of reference sheets and portraits the same, as well as the cost of all the extras. I might just have to raise the base price of fullbody images and busts by about $5. That would be it. That way it's not a lot more to pay for any one person, but it would add up to a fair bit in the long run for me. I'm glad for the opportunity to run this by you, actually. It's hard for me, sitting here by myself and being so new to FA, to judge what is fair as far as pricing goes. It's good to have a second opinion.
I've used OC before! I actually really liked it. If I had more free time I'd probably do that more often. :)
