So, I've been thinking it's a bad idea to make a straight fancomic of Mystery Dungeon. I'd probably get hurt with DMCA and things. However, there's nothing dangerous about breaking off of it entirely and making it a fantasy setting comprised entirely of regular anthro species like skunks, foxes, etc.
That way, I can make Mephit a little Poison Gas Skunk and enjoy my own idea.
I could still give Mephit some traits of his old design, such as having eyes that can be white yet show a closed eye cartoonishly, or spraying poison and poison gas as his specialties like magic.
