Arguably the most important military branch within the Grumanian Empire, the Kaiserliche Marine serves as the nation’s interstellar navy which is tasked with providing security for civilian and government assets in space, conducting warfare against hostile fleets or void creatures, and transporting the Imperial Landwehr’s forces between worlds among other duties including orbital bombardment and surveillance. Even among its main rivals in the Swechian, Bretalian, and Ruthennian empires, the Grumanian Imperial navy is often argued by some to be superior citing the efficiency of its officer corps, personnel training, and innovative fleet doctrines. The Kaiserliche Marine is divided into smaller branches with the two most prominent ones being the Weltraumbataillon and the Weltraumjägerkorps which refer to the navy’s marine corps and fighter corps respectively.

Since the dawn of interstellar civilization, the need for able bodied individuals has always been of great demand for the various navies of the galaxy as no ship can run without a crew. For the Grumanian empire this is no exception and many citizens are often drafted or volunteered from their homeworlds for a period of service in the Kaiserliche Marine if not the army. Given basic weapon and protocol training to defend themselves in the event of hostile boarding, enlisted sailors of the Grumanian navy are not to be completely underestimated as pushovers.

The Weltraumbataillon is an integral branch of the Kaiserliche Marine with the core element of this branch consisting of Fleet marines whose primary function is to provide security and repelling or committing boarding actions. The Weltraumbataillon is never deployed planetside apart from protecting naval assets on the ground as “amphibious assaults” are regulated to the Landwehr. These navy infantry are generally equipped with SMGs and pistols rather than standard army rifles due to the close quarters nature of many vessels and stations though they can access heavier equipment if need be.

Another integral branch of the Kaiserliche Marine is the Weltraumjägerkorps which operates the numerous void crafts that operate both in space and planetside. This branch is tasked with not only the engagement of hostile void crafts and voidships but also providing vital airsupport for the Landwehr in planetary warfare. Those who seek to become pilots undergo a multi year grueling training regime that tests both the physical and mental capabilities of each applicant. Only a handful of applicants will graduate and join the ranks of the Weltraumjägerkorps. Among them is the daughter of the legendary ace the White Baron who strives to surpass her father as the best fighter ace in Grumanian history.

As within any other navy, Grumanian naval officers fulfill a variety of roles onboard their vessels depending on their branch, be it managing their assigned section of the ship, commanding squads of marines in combat, communications, or general bureaucracy and inspection work. These naval officers are generally equipped with side arms and occasionally saber swords or a personal shield generator for self defense though they aren’t generally expected to be engaged in combat for very long.

Should a commissioned officer serve for a sufficient amount of time with excellent records or have connections with the right individuals and status in society, they might find themselves serving the prestigious rank of captain with the responsibilities of commanding an entire vessel. Many captains of the Kaiserliche Marine are generally very focused and patriotic individuals with little patience for mistakes and insubordination. Equipped in a similar manner as their officer underlings, captains also have access to more powerful personal shield generators to ensure they can survive even direct blasts from explosives.
