No matter how much you try to convince me otherwise, there is only one true Spyro, and he looks like this.
This is not Spyro. That is a doppelganger.
>:C
Sorry, I'm far too attached to the original series, and I hate what's been done to the franchise. Childhood defining game, and all. I could wax poetic about it for hours, if you let me. Believe it or not, it's one of the major influences behind my art and my passion for bright, vivid colors.
This was intended to be a warm-up doodle, but in the end it was all I finished today due to being busy. Ah well, I like it enough. Although I really need to do some proper fan art for the lil guy some time ;n;

It's a shame. The new version of Spyro looks so pretty, but they turned the game series into a fuckin' franchise series. I like how much detail and story they put into the reboot, but of coooourse they had to incorporate a female romantic interest in it. Not to mention the original Playstation controls are the most solid and sharp.

To be honest, I was impressed with Spyro's revamp. Not that he needed a "revamp", but the modernization had brought down a lot of old game idols to a really low level (e.g. Sonic the Hedgehog, Crash Bandicoot, etc.) and Spyro seemed to stay rather true to his original design and game form. The designers also put a lot into creating a universe with a continuing plot, rather than have the character turn into a werewolf in one game and team up with colorful aliens in the next.

Ah yes, I whole heartedly agree, I only briefly played the first game but as the sequels went on it really ruined the series. It never made me want to pick up another Spyro game again. Actually your rendition is the best I have ever seen, you should go to the company and make them use your version of Spyro in their games >:o

TT^TT So true... I remember playing those first 3 games for hours! I was so bad at them but I loved em! I just recently played em again and beat the shit out of them! XD Took me 2 days on each but man were they fun! I love those games so much and grew up on them too! If they remade them in a not so shitty way, I would have been ALL OVER that shit. ;v; Too bad the majority of idiots like shit games....

Amazing artwork, though what do you think about the skylander's spyro, if you happen to see that one? This one.

I grew up with the original three games. I recently bought that Dawn of the Dragon one, unaware that they had revamped him, and well...it was a surprise to say the least.
I like my old Spyro games better. They were funny and likable. These new ones aren't necessarily bad, but I feel that they shouldn't have used Spyro. They should have just made another dragon character.

Oh man. When I saw the new Spyro design I choked on my own spit. He's been butchered just like Crash has. Although I think Crash has definitely gotten the worst out of the two. I didn't even play Spyro as a kid, but what they did to his design made me weep for those who did. First Crash, now Spyro. >:

You sir, have gotten yourself an insta-fave. Well done!
I loooooved the classic Spyro trilogy, when Insomniac had it. I seemed to have sold my original copies of them when I was younger (Note: WHEN I WAS YOUNGER), but I bought some copies on ebay and amazon. Now I have the whole trilogy again, and I am oh so happy with it.
I even did an ameteur 120% speed-run on Spyro the Dragon this past semester, and got 3 hours and 20 minutes I believe (Kinda a half-blind run, given I hadn't played it in a couple years)
Also have the original Crash Bandicoot trilogy plus Crash Team Racing.

You can't get much better than burning tents, waiting to get mooned, and then ramming said mooning enemy into sparkly oblivion...and saving pet snow leopards and wolves...and having a shootout with dinosaurs... and riding around manta rays... and supercharging to reach annoyingly placed treasure/eggs...
At least Playstation knows the original three were keepers; I'm happy to see you can buy and download them on your PSP or PS3 whenever the need arises to fry helpless animals for butterflies c:

I'm gonna be the wet blanket here and saw i liked spyro... but he wasn't my alltime favorite Dragon character... I mean look, the dragons of today... just... outdo him. Yeah sure he was cute back then... But i got outta the playstation thing when i got an Xbox360. Then i dumped that for a wii... then i dumped THAT for a 3ds... And i've been happy ever since.
But looking back? Yeah spyro was fun. But i never got into the newer games. So generally? No real opinion. I think he looks cool either way. But from what i've heard... The controls on the newer model spyro stink, and it was an all time bummer. OLD SPYRO ALL THE WAY!!!

I never beat the first one. I was really young when I played it and replayed the beginning over and over again cause I didn't know what I was doing. After a few years, I got further, but I don't remember much.
But I never grew to like the newer ones. Great job on this picture.

Love the face, never played Spyro except at a friends but that was years ago.And while I can't say I remeber this place I have to say alot of franchises have taken the route Spyro has especially Sonic,StarFox and Pokemon(IMO) but we can't do anything but support our franchises because that's what fans do....or not buy the games.

Spyro is awesome! I totally agree with you that the new spyro is some kind of doppelganger. The first time I saw the new style I was like this is not spyro. The orignal spyro is the best, the way it should be and to stay that way! ..... Also awesome drawing!!! ^___^

the original spyro is more cute too but you know they are two different series, the other is the Legend of Spyro. I too prefer the original. In A Hero's Tail (one of my favs) the rendering and frame design I Thought it was beautifully well done, compare to the enter the dragon fly, which is not that a good game :(

For me, the true Spyro will always be the classic one as well (PS1 era) but I will admit, the "Legend of Spyro" trilogy of him, it did actually grow on me... But still, none can hold a candle to the classic lovable purple dragon we all grew up with. Anyway, I really love how you did him. He looks very unique in your style. You made him look so slick and sleek. And I like the stalagmites in the background as well. All around, beautiful work. ^^

The original Spyro, had the best game-play.
The Legend of Spyro Trilogy, had a beautiful story to follow.
Then Activision just had to completely obliterate him.
Sure TLoS wasn't a very engaging series, but the story was wonderful. the original Spyro might of been a seemingly random set of adventures, but it was a game you could spend hours playing just for the game-play itself.
Damn you Skylanders! You shouldn't of used Spyro as a gimmick!!!! You didn't even need him, you were a fun enough game by yourself, but NO they had to twist Spyro into a shadow of his former self...

BRIGHT! VIVID! COLORS! or go home!
I never got to play Spyro as a kid. My friend let me watch her play it some when I went over one time, though : / she was at the part where there's an egg-thief and she was trying to head-but him to get him the drop the eggs. Then there was a beach with these changing stalls? I may not have liked the game because it required you to kill sheep and chickens to regain health and I thought that was kind of mean as a kid XD
