Man, that was a rough year.

2023 has come to a close, perhaps one of the most difficult years for me thus far. It was a very emotional roller coaster, and where I hope 2024 paves the way for something better and brighter. I believe this to be my least active year since returning, but managing to still almost fill out one of these for the year, and I can feel proud about that. Much of this really does stem from my Grandma's passing in February 2023, a huge part of my life ripped away. Even though you know it's coming, you do your best to get ready for it, you really are never ready for the loss of a loved one. It still hurts today, but I must learn to pick myself up and continue. It's what she would've wanted. But, in all of the darkness, I still managed to draw quite a bit, and I have a few pieces here that I really did feel very proud of. One of which was on the biggest canvas I've ever used at 15,000 x 10,000 pixels; this is honestly a practice I'm going to change going forward, I use canvases that are unnecessarily too big.

That last paragraph was written sometime in January, and it's now March that I'm picking this back up to continue working on this upload. Of course, I wanted this to be the first thing I uploaded for 2024 but I put other things up first. But I also didn't want this to be uploaded in October again, so let's get this out of the way! Again, the first paragraph was written shortly after the new year where I was sick but also feeling very emotional about a number of things going on in my life, one of them still recovering from losing Grandma. But here I am, sick for the third time this year but after coming home from a family vacation, ready to catch up a bit.

And that about does it! I was about to write secondary paragraphs for each of my choices, but I felt it wouldn't be necessary, you can tell how I felt about each upload by following the link to the respective piece to read my descriptions there. If I had to pick one to represent all of 2023 however, it'd be a pretty tough tossup between Lounging and my new reference featuring the cow and pig forms, I felt the most proud of both of those. They lifted my mood during a really tough year. I'm hoping to have more of those moments in 2024. Thanks for looking!
