This was a quick little snap that I took on my phone, on the weekend, down in Albany for some vintage car racing. Overall, the weekend was quite full on; I left work late and had a five hour drive in pitch black darkness, with rain, suicidal roos and, in the last leg, pea-soup fog to contend with.
On the Saturday, a twisted axle saw a keyway snap and shatter a drum on the race car, which sent us out scavenging for a 1936 Ford Utility rear drum plate (which we found on an awesome dairy farm!). We tidied up the axle, cut a new key, sanded the drum down and away we went, all for free! Country folk sure are fantastic! So I got to race around the street circuit on the Sunday and I took this little photo while I was waiting on the dummy grid, simply because it was such an amazing shot. Now I'm going to get wanky about it.
I took this from eye level, easy enough to do with a cameraphone, and it focused relatively well, given the large amount of detail in the picture, but I love how it comes together; all the things happening and how it can be construed. In a personal context, in the car; with a glimpse of the speedo...you could say that it represents one's ability to pace themselves on their way through their life; their ability to relax and take it easy, or be focused and driving. The wheel; your ability to control your direction and where you head. The mirror, your ability to look back, reflect and reminisce.
The people in front; stories, relationships and interactions you may have to navigate through in the pathway of your daily life. The track; the path your life may take; whether you choose to follow it or stray from it, or worse; crash and damage yourself on the barriers. The people that are there to help out and make sure you stay safe on your travels.
And beyond all that; you have that amazing skyline. That, beyond all the daily insignificant interactions of human life; everything else continues on blindly to us all, unaware of its own beauty and ferocity.
Those are just my thoughts, however :x
Oh, by the way, I won ;)

Hurray! But then of course I knew you would win, I only wish I could have been there cheering you on! I am glad to hear the day was full of grandness and time to pause and reflect on the scope of it all. May the fair winds be ever at your back and keep you through whatever life may bring your way.
