So! For Christmas, I was lucky enough to score a digital SLR camera! I have pretty much no idea how it ranks in the hierarchy of expense and showing-off-iness, but all I care about is that you can turn all the extra screens, blinking lights and beeping off and go back to a simple light meter, manual focus, adjustable ISO, shutter speed and aperture. I really dislike the digital medium, I think it absolutely kills the tangible romance of photography, having your image as nothing more than saved on a card, rather than processing the images myself. Oh well, got to keep in it some way, I guess.

Anyways, I took a couple of shots today exploring the settings and familiarising myself with using a camera that treats you as the boss and I'm going to upload a few. Nothing fancy, just exploring and picking things up again.

I played around with the the focal range on this one, as well as switching to monochrome (something that is at least easier and nicer on digital!) and I'm pretty pleased with the result, I achieved what I was after basically on the camera without having to go onto photoshop and fiddle with levels. I guess that's the advantage of having a camera that as a true monochrome, rather than a grey RGB function or changing it to greyscale in PS.
