From the notes of Dr. Stephen Maturin on the Galapogos Islands, 1805, regarding the discovery of a new species of tortoise:
"Specimen is tough with a hard outer exterior. I suspect, rather hard to eradicate. Specimen is able to stretch the neck to quite a height to reach high leaves. Specimen is also quite a character, prickly ~ tried to bite me when I drew the leaves away from his mouth. Will attempt to capture Specimen and take it back home to present to the Royal Society. I realize it will be a most awkward thing to cart aboard, but I can at least rest assured that no one will try to eat it."
Mmm-hmm, yup. All of seven of you will truly get this, and you are blessed folks indeed. This delightful creature was the brainchild of a friend of mine (we are both hardcore, obsessive fans of this movie. That is to say, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World), and once he told me about it I knew it had to be done. It was drawn by the always amazing
leopreston.
We're in the process of having a high-def version of this turned into a poster 8)
