The problem with that is their inborn ADHD, which means only a small minority (basically the tier of yinglet society just below the patriarchs) are suited for any kind of job that requires long-term focus.
A better job for yinglets in Val Salia would be messenger. They're fast, particularly over short distances. They can take shortcuts no human or baxxid could. They could form the continent's first (near-)instant messenger service.
YMail.

I can see another problem that I discussed quite a few posts ago: Yinglets are cheap. They require less living space and less food, so they could undercut human pay levels with their lower cost of living. This will lead to many angry humans as they realise they were fired and replaced by a yinglet who asks half as much for a day's work.
Huh. Kass's badge isn't teeny-tiny like that, but I guess it makes sense they wouldn't want to frighten the populace with the idea too strongly right off the bat. And it's interesting that we've never seen a baxxid wear the Red--was Kass in fact the first nonhuman Ivenmoth? And yet the baxxid are so esteemed that literally the only ranked official to wear a gold collar in the comic besides Kass was the guard showing Kalkgur the ropes--a sergeant's job, if even that, under normal circumstances.
Viracroix's PR guy must have been impressed with Lippie's needlework if that's the job they got.

Twilight: goes insane within a week. Spends the rest of her life in a padded cell yelling "don't touch that!" at shadows.
Pinkie: Finds some genuine kindred spirits.
Rarity: Initially horrified, then finds common ground in fashion.
Applejack: Barricades herself on her farm with a shotgun.
Fluttershy: Tormented and terrorized by yinglets for multiple days straight, finally loses her temper. Is made honorary matriarch after the shouting stops.

ah propaganda, not always used for bad things!
though if they really want to get yinglets to integrate they would probably need to find a niche for them to fill and then once people see they have a place in their society the yinglets could spreed out from there. Honestly given their love of claims they'd probably do well in the fishing industry... and it would probably help if they could get them to stop attacking people, though to be fair the trade master should also try and stop his citizens from attacking the yinglets as well as "kick the yinglet" seems to be a disturbing popular past time in the city.

the vibe of these are kinda iffy...like....surface level cooperation is nice but there are bits that are a lil sinster in places...
best that I can put it is that it reminds me a bit of the dehumanizing ways some industrialists would talk about integrating minorities decades ago and even today sometimes, a sorta; 'they exist to benefit us' type message...
like it was all contextualizing the presumed 'chaff' of society as resources rather than as what they actually were, ie people.
it's a very slight thing but it niggles at my spoop detectors
then again, maybe I just hate overt propaganda

Yeaaaah, you get what I mean right?
its kinda just, like, the democrats' view of minorities in a nutshell
and the way they kinda have the figurative and literal image of the different species minorities lining up for recognition from the humans, even though this is baxxid land, not native human territory?
It fits in with the whole...you have to be a 'good minorty' and seek acceptance schtick that a lot of liberals have...it rubs me the wrong way
I hope Val's just being a good writer here and setting something up for later

"if there's some deliberate neoliberal theming going on"
Or unconscious.
You are on FA, even though racist nazi furries exist you probably know furries tend more on the liberal side of politic.
Personnaly I was more thinking of joking on commie propaganda, since as KnyazHnko mention there is quite an emphasis on how the individual can be a productive tool for the state.... uuuum good ol USSR days

I mean, I could be a bitch and assume the worst of where Val's going with this and complain it before they've had a chance to even do it, but like, that's boring
I'd rather entertain the possibility that they know how to write
I also don't really care that much about whatever specific term you wanna use for it, it's just the way it's ticks off my 'this is a spoopy vibe' sensors and leaves me feeling uneasy that matters to me

I've always assumed that the propaganda undertones and implicit ulterior motives in these Ivenmoth pages were deliberate. Viracroix is definitely of the Ventinari School of Benign Despotry.
It may even be a four-dimensional chess game -- while Viracroix is definitely always looking at the angles and What Is Good For Trade, on some level, he really seems to believe that Living Harmoniously Is Better For Everyone. On the other claw, he's also savvy enough to realize that the best way to SELL this kind of cooperative ethos to the public at large is to emphasize the advantages from a mercantile/mercenary perspective.

I dunno about believe, he doesn't really have any scenes where he isn't playing with his hands close to his chest, he seems to pragmatic for that
Also I think I'm just worn out on people trying to sell progressivism over actually believing in it up front, which kinda just leaves me feeling very touchy about the subject

I appreciate the trust! : D
I don't think it's a spoiler to mention these helpful public releases absolutely contain House Ivenmoth propaganda. But also it's intended for non-modern audiences, the kind who the very concept of living alongside someone who looks different might be a startling new idea. So there's a lot of kid-gloving in the writing; "Hey, did you know that these not-humans can be people too, and do people things just like you? Look, we can get along, and do stuff like living and working in the same place! Not scary!"
All in all, you've got the right feel; these public releases are very much a product of their time and society, and not at all allegories for something in modern-day Earth or anything like that.

I see this and think of it as selling a simple concept: "They're here in the same region, and we can either force them out or work with them. We'd rather work with them."
As far as fantasy fiction goes, I feel better about this than... I dunno... what happens around goblins, if you get my drift.
And since this concept has to be 'bought in' by the populace, it needs to be presented in a way which shows tangible benefits. So that's why it's presented this way. Will it "realistically" work so... harmoniously? Don't think so, the yinglets have rather big chaos gremlin feel to them.

I'm not putting forward the idea that we should reject everything that fails to produce a perfect utopia, just that I want to question things, push for better where possible, and pay attention to issues when they crop up, instead of just accepting the first thing that comes my way uncritically.

Love this page.
Especially how the bottom Baxxid is giving us a rare sight of both foremost limbs being pointed straight up. I sometimes forget they can support themselves that way.
Also can't help imagining some sort of eventual humorous addition. Harmony, togetherness, prosperity through mutual benefit! *in stumbles a Lesser Yinglet and all three of the others have to hold their Yinglet back as it shrieks for someone to kill it* "Not zhis one! Never zhem!"
Or a super tiny fine print note added on the pack of the parchment that just reads. "And whatever the heck Isher is also!"

I absolutely love this page. And it feels extremely timely.
Only recently I was listening to Daniel Barenboim's Reith Lectures from 2006, in which he teased out how music is a metaphor for how different cultures could and should live together. This page and those talks are blood brothers.
Still though... in publishing this pamphlet, is the Trademaster mainly seeking to nullify any negative sentiments towards Baxxid after Kal's recent, um, 'disturbances'?
(Can't wait to see Kal in da red.)

I do like how your setting involves truly inhuman species that must be parlayed with, and you do try to characterize them as best you can as inhuman in their perspectives and motivations. Not beyond understanding entirely, but still so divorced from humanity as to make it clear, this is a creature who's motivations and thought patterns are very different.
I forsee a potential problem. This is dividing them up for specific tasks or roles based on species lines. What happens when an individual wants to do something different than their species is classically assumed to be capable of, per this vision of harmony? Unfortunately, it still seems to assign specific class roles for each species that would inevitably create segregation, prejudice, and eventually collapse their "harmony." <.<
I think many of the Yinglet currently within the city would be exiles.
This strains peoples perception of their usefullness as the more
competent and well put together ones live their lives closer to
the enclave.
THEY also didn't want to deal with the ankle biter.
Although drawn with a ball of garn, we were shown that they have a hard
time manipulating or crafting tools (#292).
This might be specific to the shown Yinglet or the kind of manipulation
necessary here but propotionally big hands with fewer digits and segments,
pads and claws, that are also sometimes used for walking, makes
their manual dexterity a hard sell.
No, I believe Yinglets would work wonders in food supply security and pest control.
In a trade centric city in an arid climate, food storages could greatly benefit
from a predator, that can't really digest starches but hunts bugs and vermin.
Like a cat irl.
And for food supply security, Yinglets body plan makes them wonderful silt fishers.
Wading through floodlands with grapply hands and feet practically doubles their
hitrate on worms, crabs and clams. Spindly limbs reduce drag for an occational
hit on a fish, that can be sold to a more petite stomach.
To me, you are doing some fantastic worldbuilding here

I'm almost disappointed we didn't get this page right after Kalgkur exploded a dude. The comedic timing!
I really get the feel Viracroix is vying for people's cooperation and acceptance of the other races and if they don't they'll be taken out back and shanked. Well not really, I just couldn't help but think of your other comic "Of Ends and Beginnings" in which a dude gets abducted and presumably killed for speaking against the yinglets. But try as Viracroix might, there will always be a few people who won't agree with his views.

Ola, OOPsistas! I'm here to remind you once again that there's a place called "Top Web Comics" https://www.topwebcomics.com/?home=3 that compiles comics from various places. There's a bunch of cool stuff there. They have monthly votes, so you can support OOPs there. You can vote once a day per device, so your PC, laptop, tablet, phone, etc.
I've noticed that you can sometimes even get in extra votes from different IP addresses, or if you're disconnected from your IP and open up again later.
It closed out last month at 1135 votes and 44th place. It's currently at 10212 votes and 91st place. The highest it's reached is 36th place, and the top vote getters seem to end up with something close to 20,000 votes.
Vote early, vote often! Help OOPs get noticed!

Since a little after the beginning of the month here the numbers on TWC have gone completely wonky. I've seen it as high as 12th place, and as low as 91st, which it is right now. Neither of those extremes make any sense. Its yoyoed between these extremes. basically every day, as have all of its usual nighbors on the front page.
This is rendering the numbers meaningless, and making the outcome at the end of the month a complete crapshoot.
I really wonder WTF is going on here.
