Alright, y'all. Time to drop some lore I've been cooking up for a while! Despite Marigold's story being for fun there is a lot more lore I like to come up with lol
Stephanos the Scholar is a well known and VERY old magic user. While some witches gain a longer life due to giving themselves to a more powerful entity, Stephanos simply used magic to slow down his aging. So he'll pass just not anytime soon. And if you haven't noticed Stephanos is one of the few men who can use magic. And that's all thanks to a devastating curse called the Strain. Strain is a magic afflicting curse that specifically targeted males and it siphoned their magic to the one who created the curse. But once the one who cursed them died the Strain NEVER stopped and spread. Magic is passed down and the Strain affected the sons especially to block it. Stephanos wants to find a way to break it, but none has been found as of yet.
HOWEVER! The curse was only afflicted towards bigger areas against well known mage families. So the reason why some men can still harness magic is because their ancestors came from rural areas that never got affected.

Really cool lore! Reminds me of one of my characters; she's a big feral witch who due to her sad backstory hates males & so she makes twisted deals with them making them suffer as much as possible in exchange for her "miracles." She would LOVE something like this curse or who cooked it! Hope to read more about it.
