While working on concept sketches for the bear shaman who’s shown up in a few pieces a while back, I wanted to explore other healing/mediation traditions in the region. This skunk is dressed head to, well, ankle in the dour black typical of her station. A rough badger concept also got scribbled out at the same time, but what I'd really like is get back to that bear and revisit her design...

Oh my gods... the details are so gorgeous! I love all those little pendents on her, each with different inscriptions. Very serious pose, lovely lighting and really nice pose of the hand too (and hands are always so hard). I do of course love that the one bit of bright light in the room is shining on her pink soles, which are such a bright, stark contrast to all the darker tones of her body, outfit and the room itself. And kudos too on such a great job on five-toed type feet! They're the trickiest to get right, and you nailed it. <3
I mean, I always have to think about whether mustelids get 4 toes or the more realistic 5, and usually a simplified design wins out, more for cuteness and readability's sake than anything else. Thought I'd try something else with this girl, and I was kinda happy with the results.
I love working out sort of "clothing agnostic" designs, which isn't necessarily super new for me. So in the case of the wolf medic, what she wears is more for practical or esthetic purposes, not modesty. Clothing can be fun to work into these designs when it's not exactly a requirement.
I do want to ask so many questions about the lore, the dress and its purposes, where this all originates.... but this reminds me of old oil paintings in how a subject was mostly painted lit, but even the immediate surroundings were left dim. It makes it feel historic, like an account of this figure.
...and gosh, the lovely bright parts, nosetip, the active thinking hand, and... naturally sculpted, beautiful feet. *quiet appreciation* <3 :>
