I think this is the first commission I ever specified to portrait him as a kid. I asked him to also draw him happy for a change because I want Martes to be a good kid and not just a hurricane waiting to happen. The same with family and friends, as well as the bully!
Because these stories and this world were created with two ingredients: my own middle school experiences, and my hopes that things have been different. And this last ingredient created a whole universe in itself. I think the essence of Hurricane Martes is that better versions of everything aren't as far away as we think. Maybe they just need a little bit of risk, a little bit of hope and a bold decision.
