When it comes to surviving out in the wilderness, Melee and Sharon usually have a system when it comes to getting food: She kills it, and he cooks it. But Miss Medley's hunts don't always turn out fruitful, so meat isn't always on the menu. However, that doesn't mean she always returns empty-handed: mushrooms, berries, and herbs are prevalent in these woodlands, after all, so surely Melee can whip up something with what his friend has gathered, right? Who cares if it isn't a succulent roast or stew, when the alternative is going hungry?

Unfortunately, Melee is quick to point out that sometimes going hungry is indeed a preferable alternative when, upon finishing his inspection of the ingredients presented, he utters those three dreaded words that not only reject his friend's bounty, but also makes it so she can't even get angry at him about it:

"Sharon, these are poisonous."

"Oh..."
... Gathering used to be a lot easier when the red dragoness was only fending for herself. See, she hails from a bloodline that grants her nigh-immunity to most poisons and venoms in these forests. To her, there's no such thing as a poisonous mushroom or a toxic berry, just stuff of varying levels of tastiness. Melee, however, does not share this immunity; most of his draconic perks revolve more around fire, both in terms of breathing the stuff and having flesh that's resistant to burning. Good things to have, sure, but neither does much of anything to protect him from poisonous flora, which he found out the hard way many years back when he first set foot into Sharon's homeland. Luckily, he learned to pick up on which mushrooms are safe for "human" consumption during his time and travels training as a squire, minimizing the risk of any... unfortunate incidents.

"Well, c-can't you just cook the poison out of them or something!?"

"No, that's... uh, that's not how it works, Sharon."

"... Oh."

Still, it can pretty awkward for Sharon to be told that the "food" she brought back could kill her friend or make him extremely ill. Maybe she would've been better off not bringing back anything at all? Then again, maybe there's something in that basket of hers that Melee can eat... it can't all be toxic, right? ... Right!?

Been awhile since I last commissioned this artist! Katnay has done some nice stuff for me in the past featuring these two, and my experiences with him were always good, so of course it was only a matter of time before I hit him up about doing more art for me! No background this time, however, as I felt it wouldn't have really added anything to what was going on in the picture. Astute viewers may also notice that Melee's wearing his armor this time! Yes, I decided to have Katnay draw him wearing it for this picture, mainly to shake things up a little and because it's been awhile since he was last seen in it.

When I commission a lot of SFW art, I usually do so with the intent of using it to develop my characters more, and sometimes coming up with ideas that aren't repeats of older drawings can be quite difficult. Sometimes, zany ideas unrelated to their primary universe and main story come up... other times, ideas come up that either require the right artist to execute or perhaps a change of clothes to really work (I will draw winter refs for these two someday, I swear it). Either way, these two have not quite run their course just yet, and I'm sure there will be more of them to come before the year is over! And hopefully, you'll all enjoy seeing it!
