You know what I love about this... I mean what else I do? There's a lot to love here.
But we have almost a complete 180(heh) in positions. Kass just recovered from a panic attack/fear spiral/inner conflict from a sudden action.
And right here we have almost the exact same thing play out in reverse. The difference being Kass beyond a yeek, kept themself composed while Kalgkur... Well...
And both parties reacting with surprise/confusion of the others actions.
These goobers gonna be fun to see become friends.

"Ooooh lemme guess, you bought something dubious at the market one day which has unexpectedly given you an out of body experience -in more ways than one- that simultaneously has you second guessing your own identity BUT has also thrusted you in the crosshair of Valsalia's political elite for your potential in human/non-human diplomatic relations?"
"Nah, I killed a guy."
"Ah."
"Nah, I killed a guy."
"Ah."
I don't blame Kass one bit at being a little shocked. This bashful, self-depreciating special escort of a Baxxid is the one that splattered someone all over the market?
Of course we know that it was an awful mistake, inexperience combined with clumsiness, not murderous intent. And poor Kalghur, that's the last thing he wanted to be reminded of.
It never fails to impress me how you can take something as utterly alien as a Baxxid and make them so very... human. Not in the sense of being anthropomorphic, but just relatable. You look at Kalghur, and you see a person. A highly relatable, gentle, and mild-mannered person.
He reminds me so very much of my Sylia, and that's the highest compliment I can pay. (And it's a helluva lot easier to make a creature like Sylia relatable than a Baxxid!)

I think he's talking about the event leading up to the unfortunate unaliving someone in the market. The reason Kal was doing guard work in the first place was as punishment for disturbing the peace earlier with a scream that woke up a good portion of the city after being startled by something. (It's too early, and I haven't had breakfast, so I'm not looking for the exact page way back in the archives where this occurred)
That's exactly what he's talking about, and me too. My whale-otter macro character Sylia, a peaceful explorer and scientist, had a similar oopsie when she was out on her first Explorer sortie. (Fortunately, in that one, nobody was seriously hurt). And she had to go through a test not unlike Kalghur's. It's part of why I feel so strongly what he's going through. I sure as heck know the Baxxid and the Halavahdon probably would get along well. They have similar attitudes toward life, even if one's an ancient sophont and one's a very young one (like the yinglets).
When Kalkgur was being shown the ropes of being a guard, they assigned a gold-collar officer, the only one in the entire comic we've seen that wasn't named Kassen Akoll, for the temporary punitive assignment.
When he was sent to be the personal bodyguard for Kass himself, he was totally unescorted.
Get your act together, House Ivenmoth!

Hi-de-hi, OOPsaloids! I'm here to remind you once again that there's a place called "Top Web Comics" https://www.topwebcomics.com/?home=3 that compiles comics from various places. There's a bunch of cool stuff there. They have monthly votes, so you can support OOPs there. You can vote once a day per device, so your PC, laptop, tablet, phone, etc.
I've noticed that you can sometimes even get in extra votes from different IP addresses, or if you're disconnected from your IP and open up again later.
It closed out last month at 12427 votes and 73rd place. It's currently at 7431 votes and 91st place. The highest it's reached is 36th place, and the top vote getters seem to end up with something close to 20,000 votes, at least historically.
Vote early, vote often! Help OOPs get noticed!

I'll repeat my comment on this from last time:
"The numbers at TWC have gotten very strange recently. Hundreds of votes have been showing up suddenly every day, and the rankings throughout a day have been going radically up and down. I recently noticed that this is just confined to the comics in the top 100.
This is making the numbers and rankings pretty meaningless, and is really unfair to any comic not in the top 100. It also makes it a complete crapshoot where the comics end up at the end of the month. I haven't been able to find out what's going on with this."

"Unusual circumstances"...
Kass, you don't know the half of it...
Kal is destined to feel even MORE embarrassed and chagrined when that inevitably drops.
I don't see how he could possibly withdraw into a tighter ball of shame without turning inside out...

Damn, how many times is Kalgkur going to be embarrassed during this conversation? The murder hasn’t been brought up yet, so we can still go for three.
I will say if I haven’t already, it’s funny to see how after accidentally killing a dude it leads to him getting promoted to guard an officer.
