Both sides won out a little, but I’d give the point to Kass’ brain instead of their instincts. A single involuntary shriek is probably much less of a reaction than Kalgkur would get from most humans if he suddenly speared himself down mere inches from their feet in apology.
Also on Page 25, Vizlet said Kass is an equal to herself as a Matriarch in the brains department--if only because she used to be a human. I wonder if that would help her avoid even the one Yeeek?
The dialogue behind what is really going on in his head is... Scary... By far in my opinion, the darkest page in the story to date. Not because of physical dangers or some kind of body horror, but how his own brain destroys the foundations of his own identity with phrases like "Females are for breeding, not fighting" and other things related to the yinglet social organization...
Although Dinnlan did not deny women the opportunity to work the same jobs as men, it was still far enough behind in progressiveness that Kass still thought of them as needing protection, even if he did genuinely support their ability to hold the same jobs. Even his human mind would probably hold to "a woman should not fight alone, she needs a squad to support her," and she currently has no squad.
Honestly the Yeek was needed. Just get that out of the system as the body needed it. Then compose and move on.
But I agree with one above me. That mentality messing with him is DARK.
It does make me wonder, however: How much of that is yinglet female thinking at standard..., or is that more imprinting that was put on "Za Zing"? We know it was made to make specific, generic kind of Yinglet, and can assume female. And one that had that kinda mentality would be easily controlled, if that was the goal of "Za Zing"....
Of the females we've seen the only one that has had a similar reaction was... Um.. shoot her name escapes me but the savant. Then again none of them have been in a possible dangerous situation.
Very curious.
Bit of the old stereotyping in our Baxxid boy there. Glad they realized it was rude.

Here's another possibility: how much of that is Yinglet Hyperactive Panic getting filtered through Kass's gender dysphoria and, possibly, his own unexamined sexism? The intensity of the emotional reaction is pure Yinglet, but the details of that internal dialogue could very well be rooted in his own anxieties. It's been repeatedly shown that his distress at his transformation is compounded by not being merely a "scav", but being a female one.
He certainly doesn't seem to have much interest or respect for "traditional" female roles in the Yinglet enclave, and is deeply disgusted by the idea of breeding himself.
It occurs to me that we haven't really seen Kass interact with human women much.

(I continue to use he/him pronouns for Kass, because he still identifies as male.)
Gender tf and failing to confront the trans thing, name a more iconic duo. Seriously though, does this author not believe in trans people? Kass is referred to with she/her a lot, in fact most gender tf by them has the characters gender change to fit the body. There’s a patreon freebie where Isher gets gender tf’d, and soon enough is really into this whole being a strong man thing. Where does this come from? Is it because most gender tf is drawn/written by people who are trans themselves and are making it as wish fulfillment?
Indeed he does, although he doesn't make a specific point of saying it.
In conversations between Viracroix and Vizlet, she keeps referring to Kass as "she/her", while Viracroix uses "he/him".
So there's definitely a low-level conflict around the issue, but one that only seems to be happening at the highest levels. Everyone else seems to be perfectly fine with Kass' wishes.

The author knows about trans after all many trans folks are fans of the comic.
Kass friends and the trademaster use male pronoums for him and Kass told the elevator guy to call him "sir".
The freebies are probably just fetish and there is nothing wrong in that for the same reason there is nothing wrong in playing as a mass murderer in GTA: its just fiction; the main comic is more serious about the TF/TG thing anyway.

The most extensive conversation with human women we've seen was with the seamstresses when he had them make Yannit a uniform. He didn't correct them when the called him a her. It could be because he got bopped in the head and immediately had to deal with a discipline issue. And one thing that complicates things is that he wants to keep the people that know he used to be a human male to minimum. So, like with the seamstresses, when someone refers to him as female, he just kind of rolls with it. When he corrected the lift operator that he preferred to be called "Sir" , he didn't frame it as "I want to be considered male," he let Jai assume all officers should be addressed as "Sir."
Kass is essentially maintaining a Secret Identity. Both Viracroix and Vizlet have made it clear that they both want to keep the whole situation as quiet as possible, and outside of his immediate circle of friends and cohorts, very few people have any idea that this kind of transformation is even possible.
As someone who, until about 2019 suffered from anxieties from my ADHD. Kalgkur's AND Kassen's internal thoughts mirrored my own.
I always said, that my writing is vastly different than my speech. I can 'hear' in my head, what I want to say, but then my speech came out jumbled, to the point I sounded like a friggin' igit. No wonder people thought I was some dumb hick hillbilly.
It's like my brain, is on 'drive' and and my speech centers are 'hit the red button, and strap down your asses.' It's taken years of meds, and being around people at my jobs (Especially Goodwill) before it stabilized. At least I didn't have a 'YEEEEK!' minute :).

Kal'gur viewed yinglet as idiots incapable to speak properly.
#kal'gur is a racist !
Finally our first racist in Val'salia !

you go Kass! you are a soldier first and foremost don't forget it! 🫡
I'd say I'd love to do this conflict in the opposite direction, however I think almost every hulk/banner interaction since the 80's already overs that TBH (though I suppose bruce would have to be a princess or some other female diplomat with tons of pomp and circumstance for that to really fit, hmmm...)

admittedly a lot of my knowledge is second hand, but yeah they really started to flesh the concept of a split personality more the longer it went on, to the point where the "duo" was particularly good at resisting psychers/mind-control type villains due to essentially making every mental conflict a 2 vs 1 (at the bare minimum before we even start talking about the extra ones lol)
I could probably skip a lot of his series even though I like the gamma radiation mythos, but I think I REALLY want to binge read "the immortal hulk" sometime, it's much, MUCH darker than a typical hulk comic, and ties a lot of themes of cosmic horror and body horror together. Speaking of which, I would like to compliment this thing againhttps://www.furaffinity.net/view/58294352/it's rare to see someone pivot so seamlessly from a quirky web-comic to a john carpenter film

Holy moly I love the culture clash here. It must be hard enough for Kalghur to understand such young, violent sophonts. Now he meets a human in Yinglet "disguise" who is learning to speak as a proper Ivenmoth Envoy. She's really growing into that gold sigil.
I think somewhere, TrademasterVetinari Viracroix is smiling. With the likes of Kalghur, Vizlet and Kass, the city is in good hands.
I think somewhere, Trademaster
I don't compare him to Havelock Vetinari lightly. He's a mostly benevolent tyrant, someone that actually gives a hoop about his people, and long ago recognized that either they could all die together in war, or they could live as a peaceful melting pot. "Trademaster" is his title, after all. Why fight when you can trade? If he has a hope, I'd say it's that the whole becomes greater - and more powerful - than the sum of its parts.
I never thought of the similarities between Viracroix and Vetenari, but it makes sense. Viracroix doesn't have Vetenari's espionage hypercompetence, but they both have the same slightly off, almost medieval but overall benevolent tyranny and understanding of what goes on behind their subjects' eyes. They even have their own pet intellectual, although Ran is more of an employee than Da Quirm's leashed inventor attack-dog status.
Yo,, OOPsites! I'm here to remind you again that there's a place called "Top Web Comics"https://www.topwebcomics.com/?home=3that compiles comics from various places. There's a bunch of cool stuff there. They have monthly votes, so you can support OOPs there. You can vote once a day per device, so your PC, laptop, tablet, phone, etc.
I've noticed that you can sometimes even get in extra votes from different IP addresses, or if you're disconnected from your IP and open up again later.
It closed out last month at 12427 votes and 73rd place. It's currently at 6612 votes and 70th place. The highest it's reached is 36th place, and the top vote getters seem to end up with something close to 20,000 votes.
Vote early, vote often! Help OOPs get noticed!

The numbers at TWC have gotten very strange recently. Hundreds of votes have been showing up suddenly every day, and the rankings throughout a day have been going radically up and down. I recently noticed that this is just confined to the comics in the top 100.
This is making the numbers and rankings pretty meaningless, and is really unfair to any comic not in the top 100. It also makes it a complete crapshoot where the comics end up at the end of the month. I haven't been able to find out what's going on with this.

It's hard to picture how else this might have happened, but considering that it's completely confined to the top 99 front page comics, it's really weird. The same issue just isn't happening to anything on the second page or lower. It really doesn't make sense.
I see that 5th panel as something of a triumph for Kass: he manages to compose himself and find exactly the right professional words after his inner conflict and panic-attack. Can we even detect a tiny bit of pride as he speaks the words "I am Officer-Diplomat Kassan Akoll"? The use of capital letters for the words describing his new position are very telling. It's as if he's finally, finally starting to recognize, accept, and grow into who he now is: a yinglet, yes, for sure, but a capable one, and one with recognized status.
I don't see Kalgkur's musings as racist. Not necessarily. His sole exposure to yinglets has probably been to the sillier individuals of the species, and he's clearly prepared to change his assessment based on new evidence. I don't think that can be categorized as racist behaviour. Oh, and on top of that, he seems to be hopelessly in love with a human, so he clearly doesn't have a problem with different races per se.
