One key lesson I’ve learned from collaborating with other artists on DeviantArt is that not every idea will make the cut. Letting go of an idea—no matter the effort or passion behind it—is essential. It requires open-mindedness, a focus on the bigger picture, and the ability to prioritize what best serves the project.
In my collaboration comic with Gameboysage on The Sly Encounter, I was tasked with illustrating Sonic lunging forward in anger as Dr. M commands Clockwerk to kill Sonic’s father. I sketched multiple versions—one with Sonic performing a Super Peel Out with a clenched fist—but we ultimately chose a more feral pose with his hand outstretched. I had this crazy scrapped idea involving Sonic’s rage tearing the very fabric of his dimension, shattering it and turning him briefly to his Fleetway Super Sonic form alongside Sally. While it didn’t fit the comic, I later explored the concept through this art.
