I wanted to portray Sonic’s rage in this artwork to emphasize that, while he is often described as a pure-hearted shōnen hero with no flaws, he does have faults. He is quick to anger when things don’t go his way or when he’s pushed to emotional extremes—and that’s great. To me, despite being an anthropomorphic hedgehog, Sonic displays human-like qualities, especially when written by excellent writers like Ian Flynn. I love that this cocky hero can break down and be vulnerable from time to time. It’s one of the reasons I love the early Sonic Archie comics, and I hope that new media—such as the Sonic movies or games—can explore this through unique stories that challenge Sonic’s morals
