Funny story with that: Teen Spirit is a brand of deodorant. Kurt Cobain heard a friend refer to him as smelling like Teen Spirit and,having never heard of the brand before, thought it sounded cool and rebellious, inspiring "Smells Like Teen Spirit". Only later did he hear it was an actual brand.
I was just thinking about that, although I'd heard from another source that one of Kurt's girlfriends used that same brand of deodorant, and that's where the inspiration for that song came from.
In any case, we're grateful for the legacy that "Smells Like a Teen Spirit" left us as a perfect anthem of youthful rebellion that continues to resonate to this day xD
