Star Ocean is so jank I love it. Tales is good too (i dont care much for Tales of Destiny, at least the PSX version, both SNES and PSX Phantasia are fine on that end) but there's just something about messy games that win me over.
I wanna draw Black Eagle from SO4 and Ashlay from SO1 too (maybe Emmerson from SO5, I think SO2 has a cute giant mook and some of the Ten Wise Men are cute too. SO6 I only know Midas, and honestly i could draw him in a masc version of Fiore's outfit)

I know I would love to see more of Kong from Tales of Destiny since he's pretty much the only really big guy you can have in your party in the series. And really, SO3 was jank? I didn't see it like that. I stopped playing the Star Ocean games when 6 came out. It's SO different from the previous games, it didn't feel like SO anymore and I didn't even finish the second town ^^'. As for the other characters, I wouldn't know since games 1-3 doesn't allow you to have everyone present so it's kind of hard to gauge who you like for real.
> I stopped playing the Star Ocean games when 6 came out.
Yeah that's fair.
> I know I would love to see more of Kong from Tales of Destiny
I'd like to draw Khang/Kongman again but also Rowen, Eugene, Regal...
> And really, SO3 was jank? I didn't see it like that.
I mostly mean compared to other RPGs, SO2 and SO3 are probably the best in the series haha. SO4 has really good gameplay, but suffers in the writing front for example.

Yeah I'm just incredibly brainrotten and autistic about cool RPGs, so. Black Eagle is literally a minor boss you fight Once (1) who happens to be a beefed up Roakian Fellpool. He's very cool...

Are those three (Rowen, etc) from Tales games or SO games? SO4 did have good game play, but their crafting kind of lost steam at like the midpoint and doesn't pick up on good equipment until late end game ^^ And of course trying to make sure your bonus blocks don't break XP
I honestly preferred SO2 (the Remastered version now ^^) SO3 and SO4 (maybe 5) but now I feel the series has died for me at 6, just like how Zelda died at BOTW and TOTK (The one where zelda is the main heroes that came out after TOTK gets a pass) and how Final Fantasy died at 15 all the way up to now (There ARE a few exceptions some being FF14 and the Final Fantasy tactics remaster)

Tales, Rowen is from Xillia 1&2, Eugene is from Rebirth (JP only but has a translation patch now, haven't started yet) and Regal is from Symphonia (playing and it's goated as fuck)
I'm fine as long as a game is good, my fave SOs are 1 SNES, 2 (Rena is one of my fave characters ever,,,) and 3, I will defend the jank plot twist in SO3 but it was very mishandled in terms of tone. If Nintendo goes back to the Open Zelda formula after Tears and Echoes I will be kinda annoyed? But that's mostly me not being a fan of Nintendo's very safe method of game design for the most part. I mostly like Kirby from them and the Marios I like are the really old ones and the weird ones (3D stuff, Yoshi's Island, Lost Levels...) as well as the non-kaizo but still piss hard side of romhacking.
Lastly about FF, I really like 5, 9 and 10 (and have a fondness for 8) but. Man I do not care for how they did ATB. Grandia did it so much better. Need to play Sonnori and Gravity's Arcturus, since it has incredible Grandia vibes even if it's jankier from running on an early version of the Ragnarök Online engine. It has a translation patch, and I uploaded the game to Internet Archive ages ago after getting it from a JP P2P program (the game is Korean, but Falcom localized it in Japanese and fixed a bunch of bugs, the patch targets that version), but I think I wasn't the only one who did.
Sorry for the wall of text, king. Apologies if I was rude in anyway :(

Oh right! Eugene the antro cat! I didn't remember as I only got to play him in Tales of the World ^^' also now I remember the other two.
Same about games, that's why Lufia 2 will always be my favorite SNES game :) Also for the plot twist of SO3, given the fact that they learned that not just their universe but basically everything that happened in each SO game even after 3, all life in that universe were just constructs of 4th dimensional beings that grew too afraid of their creations and tried to erase their existence is kind of mind blowing.
Kirby I like, Mario... eh (the RPG games get a pass though)
My fav FF games are 14, 12, 9 and 6. Ah a fellow Grandia fan! Also what are those two games that feel like Grandia?
And you weren't rude. I always love talking about video games, especially RPGs as that's my main niche :)

I think my favorite SNES RPG is definitely Romancing SaGa 2, need to play the remake sometime.
played both the untranslated SNES game, I can read some JP and OCR tools are a thing, and I also played the Extremely Messy ArtePiazza remaster.
i wanna finish Unlimited, and do Scarlet Grace and Emerald Beyond first. same with Minstrel Song and the DS remakes.
to me, Unlimited's just Alright. im using a guide for it, but it's not that great either. some really good character designs, some cute furries and humes. i wanna make em huge...
> Kirby I like, Mario... eh (the RPG games get a pass though)
yeah i need to replay smrpg, and im having fun going through paper mario n64 on and off. i have a lot of games, rpg and otherwise, that i haven't finished that im just plinking away at on and off, sometimes starting new ones. kisses koops and his dad

It was just Arcturus. i know about it bc i was researching about falcom games (not a fan of their obfuscated credits but they make good rpgs), and i also read hg101's korean gaming history feature way back when. also felipe pepe's medium articles on korean and chinese rpgs.
people have theorized that it influenced trails, but it may be a mix of that and the gagharv subseries (loh3-5) which have a similar map setup. legend of heroes 4's pc98 original and its psx port also had a similar guild sidequest system, playing through it and it has aged messily lol, but i like the arc the lad-esque approach to sidequests.

rpgs are really fun, digging in obscure ones, even untranslated ones is a hoot. need to play more older western ones

Eh, didn't really like the Romancing Saga series, and I tried the snes version of 2 I believe and the remastered ver.
I'm at the point I have some rpgs I haven't finished or even really started, and more are just coming this month X3
Ah cool.
I mean I like Skyrim and Oblivion but JRPGs have that something US games don't have at times :\

Yeahhhhh. I still need to start FF10-2. The story in X-2 is more hokey jokey but Job System games :0) still need to finish tactics,,
Also recently started Phantasy Star III and I'm having fun despite its stank (PhS2 was a bit too clunky for me).

Totally understandable, I just like the nonlinearity of some games, SaGa poisoned me. I run a few MMOs by myself with private server software just to do quests even.
But unlike some curmudgeon people I've seen (dont worry i don't mean you) i feel both linear and open ended RPGs have their own pros and cons, rather than just dismissing linear RPGs entirely. I am very defensive of most RPGs and games really having worth by being a piece of artwork, even the ones im not fond of (like Neptunia lol) ;w;

I beat 10-2 with 100% story completion, and I agree it seemed rushed in terms of story but managed to get the best job by being 100% too attentive to following the strategy guide ^^'
Oh I know, I don't play ALL rpgs, only the ones that catch my eye. And I agree, many RPGs could be considered works of art.

100%'ing is scary but i mostly just dont go for perfect games and such, or bestiaries unless I can actually train the monsters like in a mon game like Pokémon or Telefang or Yo-kai Watch. As long as I get to see most dungeons and boss battles and such within a game, including side content it's good enough.
I am a fiend for superbosses, admittedly.
