Overview over the whole story:

Post-transformation slice of life.
A young man in modern day Germany mysteriously and suddenly gets turned into an Avali and now has to live with it. Both a lot and surprisingly little changes in his daily life.
The narrative focuses on post-transformation (the actual transformation itself isn't even described) and follows him through initially dealing with his new body, its senses and needs, and, later on, "normal" daily life.
A handful of other people also transformed into various beings and society is unusually uncaring and accommodating.

Excerpt from this chapter:

And so the night went on. I inevitably gathered various news on the whole Metamorphosis-situation:
• There was a partial consensus on the nomenclature regarding the Metamorphosis:
- The event as a whole was "the Metamorphosis". (It really was named after Franz Kafka's story.)
- People who weren't wholly human anymore were "posthumans".
- People who had changed but still human characteristics were "semi-posthumans".
• According to some sources, the world was briefly closer to nuclear armageddon than during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Multiple countries initially thought the Metamorphosis was some sort of attack and subsequently readied their militaries and nuclear arsenals, full on DEFCON 2. Only when they realized that all other countries on earth fell victim to the same "attack" did they stand down and go back to DEFCON 5.
- A few sources claimed that this moment of tension was followed by a brief period of almost world peace, as most conflicts around the globe halted for short cease-fires as all sides tried to deal with their transformed combatants.
- Fighting has since resumed as scheduled.
- North Korea has claimed that they have no transformed people while, at the same time, blaming South Korea and the USA for transforming the people of North Korea.
• Governments were desperately scrambling to deal with a potentially contagious disease. They were also desperately scrambling to not pay too much.
• The leaders of four different countries were now the first female leaders of their country. One country celebrated their first posthuman leader, an anthropomorphic alpaca.
• Some proclaimed that the economy was ruined. Others argued that a a major change in needs for 0.01 % of the population wouldn't influence the economy that much.
- Stocks for clothing companies were skyrocketing.
• The memes were wild.
- "It should've been me!"-memes were very popular among furries.
- "I'm glad it wasn't me!"-memes were also very popular among furries.
- "I'm glad it was me!"-memes were rare but most popular among furries.
- Trans people who became semi-posthumans and weren't technically trans anymore were celebrating.
- Trans people who didn't become semi-posthumans were disappointed.
- Trans people who became posthumans and weren't technically trans anymore were also celebrating.
- Therians were either pissed or disillusioned.
- Troll Science was making a comeback.
• A few racists had a hard time justifying why certain humans are "subhuman" and other literal non-humans weren't "subhuman". The now semi-posthuman and posthuman racists were feeling mighty awkward.
• There was apparently already posthuman porn...
