So I have a new character, you guys. His name is Ares. I won him in an auction recently.

No, adoptables are not a thing I usually partake in, so for me to actually bid on one should tell you that I really really liked the design. Like, a lot.

When it came to things I was planning to do this year, adding a new character to my roster that has nothing to do with any of my already established ones or their stories was certainly not on my list, but when John posted this Serperior adoptable and put the design up for auction (he does those a lot, if you're into that kind of stuff), I saw a lot of potential in his design and figured I should place a bid or two. Not the first time I've done such with adoptables whose designs I really liked, but this one, however, was the first in which I actually wound up winning.

And with this acquisition comes a major question: What exactly am I going to do with Ares here now that he's mine? I do have ideas, yes, including a backstory and the possibility of giving him the same treatment as I did with Zitra (read: integrate him into my primary universe and tweak the design accordingly where necessary), but I won't be able to act on that "integration" part for quite some time; I've currently got my hands full with my other characters as I want to focus on finalizing some of their designs and give them proper ref sheets. Plus, I still need to work on updating Rhea so she actually has a place in said universe alongside Zitra (I haven't forgotten about that tiny vixen girl, honest!), which means he's going to remain a heavily anthropomorphized Pokémon with a whole lot of creative liberties taken with the base Serperior design for the time being.

Still, that doesn't mean I'm just going to sit on the character until then - it's a rather good-looking character that really resonated with me, and it would be a real shame to not get more art with Ares here, right? I paid good money for him, after all, and I am not one to buy characters unless I plan to do stuff with them. Plus, it would make for a good chance to at least develop his character and experiment with some of the ideas I had in mind before I get to doing any real work on him. We'll see if I can find any artists who can do the current design justice in time (and if funds allow it; got bills to pay and plenty of other characters to develop, after all).
