1992 LA Riots: The situation in the Los Angeles area was resolved after the California National Guard, United States military, and several federal law enforcement agencies deployed more than 10,000 of their armed responders to assist in ending the violence and unrest.[7]
1931-1939 Harlan County War: The Kentucky National Guard was called in.
1927 Colorado Strike: "STATE TROOPS KEEP ORDER IN COLORADO; Striking Coal Miners Are Quiet Following Monday's Fatal Clash Near Denver. SAY THEY WILE AVOID FORCE National Guardsmen Quartered in Mines -- Civil Liberties Union Here Protests to Governor Adams
1921 Blair Mountain: The battle ended after approximately one million rounds were fired,[7] and the United States Army, represented by the West Virginia National Guard led by McDowell County native William Eubanks,[8] intervened by presidential order.[9]
1912 Copper County Strike: The mine owners, organized and led by James MacNaughton, manager of the Calumet and Hecla mining company, called for Governor Woodbridge N. Ferris to deploy national guard troops to keep the peace. The governor did so, which led to many confrontations, some violent, between strikers and troops.
1902 Coal Strike: The governor sent in the National Guard, who protected the mines and the minority of men still working.
1894 Cripple Creek: It is notable for being the only time in United States history when a state militia was called out (May/June 1894) in support of striking workers.[3]
1894 Pullman Strike: Striking railroad workers confront Illinois National Guard troops in Chicago during the strike.
1892 Homestead Strike: The governor responded by sending in the National Guard to protect strikebreakers.
1957 Little Rock Nine: I agree, though I will point out that Eisenhower enacted this only because Faubus USED the Arkansas National Guard to block enforcement of Federal laws. Utilizing state power to oppose the Federal government (notably, over Desegregation) is an instance I agree with for imposing Federal will. This has not been the case in California.
1967 Detroit Riots: Governor George W. Romney ordered the Michigan Army National Guard into Detroit to help end the disturbance. President Lyndon B. Johnson sent in the United States Army's 82nd and 101st Airborne divisions. This is the only clear example I would say of US military being used in a domestic setting in more than a century.
So out of (apologies I know you did not make the statement) "multiple times", there is maybe 1.5 times in modern US history. The data suggests that this is a rare event that always raises huge controversy and indeed could have increased bloodshed (as suggested in Detroit). If I am still assuming good faith, all of this should still support my main point, which is that Libertarians should not be so easily swayed into supporting military force.

Lol, if your politicians actually gave a shit about illegal immigration they would drop the hammer down on the business owners that keep hiring them. But nah, they instead snatch random people off the street because idiots like you will lap it up, and it will still continue on behind the scenes.
When you get lumped in with MAGA and called racist and a facist pig for saying " rioting and looting creates bad optics for what you support" I tap out and walk away.
Its why i left Bluesky, if I'm going to get attacked for an opinion I'm done. Both sides are a dumpster fire anymore and i'm tired of getting burnt by both.

Destroying private property, and looting, hurts innocent people. I will never support anything or anyone that will not condemn that.
The US is well beyond saving, I've come to the conclusion both sides of the government want to see the country burn and only care about their own power. The government as a whole is the problem not just one specific party.

If the US is beyond saving, then what's the point? Where will you go? Who among the innocent will you hurt in doing so (because you will)?
Post Brexit UK with its rolling controversies over government nationalization and race?
As a Chinese person, I assure you that folks wanting the country to burn and only care about their own power is pretty universal.

Rioting and looting are bad, yes. But there's not really any of that going on!
Even LAPD has been saying there's no need to bring in the National Guard, and AFAIK, violence has been initiated by the cops or the ICE.
If people are attacking you, maybe it's because you seem to have bought the right wing propaganda uncritically.

The conversation was about how a protest can rapidly devolve into chaos with looting and straight up destruction. My comment was litterally "a few bad apples can spoil the barrel creating bad optics for the entire protest when herd mentality takes over"
Wasnt long till i found myself being called racist , maga and other colorful names over that comment. Honestly im just mentally done with it all and tired of trying to justify my position to both the "left" and the "right" and if that is a shit opinion then i guess it is what it is.

Giving you the benefit of the doubt here. Most people are aware that all 'peaceful' protests can be turned into 'not peaceful' by bringing in law enforcement to attack protesters, then saying "look how chaotic it is". Most people are also aware that this is the main strategy used to ensure that all action, regardless of validity/justification, is labeled improper. Most people are aware that it's hypocritical that protesters should go through the proper channels to protest being attacked and kidnapped, but the government shouldn't go through the proper attack and kidnapping channels. Many are also tired of being told to solve things peacefully when it hasn't done anything to stop the violence directed at them. And on top of it all, most people have repeatedly seen the same concerns from people that ended up not being unaware, just maga. You should be unsurprised that people on social media assumed you were malicious, because it's statistically likely, even if it wasn't your case. Obviously, when people are under attack and you're focused on their actions instead of the perpetrator, that's going to be suspicious. There's a time and place to bring up these concerns, but you managed to find the worst one to do it. I have no doubt that BlueSky people just made fun of you with no real arguments, since that's what social media is like, but you shouldn't let poor quality social media "conversation" (if it can even be called that, it's more like bullying 2.0) convince you you're right; I can't see a conversation with someone truly interested in debate getting you a better result. You seem to need to justify your position constantly because your position doesn't seem all that defensible.
We will never have worse optics than the police despite the fact they are well celebrated in every aspect of American culture. Simply put, if people think the rioters are worse than the police who will just outright up murder several hundred people a year you are probably talking to someone who thinks bad optics include being gay, voting democrat, being black, having tattoos or piercings, being vaccinated, having a job as a woman, being autistic, being unhoused, being disabled in any way, being a furry, cross-dressing, having a mix race marriage, or not being Christian.
They just are not people worth having good optics for. They already despise you.

I'm right there with you, bud. The fandom has been long polluted by this mentality. Everyone spewing hate and anger when they can hide behind a screen, dehumanizing their accused enemies while claiming to protect the dehumanized.
You're a good person for speaking your mind. People may be saying such horrible things to you, but they don't know you. How could they?
If anything, you got at least this goober in your corner.

Funny how the same people chanting this wanted to strip everyone’s rights away because of a spicy flu. I don’t like Trump too much, but this protest is pretty ironic. All the people that lost jobs, friends, etc over it, and there’s still lasting damage. I saw somebody in a discord (discord mod of course) just last year kick a repairman out for not wearing a mask in late 2024. Covid was real, it sucked, I got it twice, but I also lost a dear friend to a pulmonary embolism a few weeks after she got her shot, because she was forced to by her job.
Plus, the parades this weekend were celebrating the founding of the US army- nothing related to him at all…
Just saying, of all the hills to die on, this one really ain’t it.

I have anyone who enters my home wear a mask. I wear a mask when out in public. If I get COVID, I will be in a lot of trouble due to my health issues. COVID is not gone, by a long shot. I have friends who have had it several times, and each time is worse than the last. Two people have heart conditions due to long COVID, and one took almost two years to have her energy come back to anywhere near normal.
"Spicy flu" huh? What an adorable way to tell us you know nothing about science or medicine, and that you chalk a million deaths up to such a cute sobriquet. Quite the charmer, you are.
COVID aside, I would wonder why you, as a furry, do not seem to understand the threat being carried out against democracy and free speech. You realize being a furry puts you in the crosshairs of the fascists exercising their power now, yes? If not...maybe you better do some more reading.

Glass house? Crazy.
My 75 year old grandmother and her entire friend group got Covid multiple times. They all said it was a mild to spicy flu. I got it 4 times myself. It has a 99.99% survival rate. Yes, people died because when you have such a large sample size (nearly 10 billion), a 99.99% survival rate will still kill millions. That’s how statistics work. You know what did kill someone I know though? In college, a dear friend of 5 years was vaccinated due to her parents forcing it, and she died two weeks later from a pulmonary embolism.
The boomers shut down the entire world, caused the deaths of hundreds of thousands because medical care and basic needs weren’t accessible, caused thousands of small and medium businesses to close, all to line their pockets.
You have an unmedicated anxiety disorder. You are not happy, your only validation in life is following arbitrary instructions based on fear mongering. Seek help and stop causing problems in comment sections on a furry porn website.

Yeah, they necroposted on my comment as well.
My mother also developed a serious and common heart condition attributed to Covid-19 vaccinations as well. The heart doctor very quietly, as though his license was at risk by telling her, stated the reason was very likely the vaccine. He'd seen the same situation at least fifty times by the time she'd visited with her condition. The vaccine also almost killed her, due to the visceral response her body had.
For me, I had to vaccinate because the military said so. I developed small, pin-needle sized red dots all over my body. They're still there, and they're all capillary bleeds. They're not visible except under a magnifying glass but it's just another side-effect of a forced vaccine. I'm told it's a "cosmetic abnormality" resultant of the vaccine, and that there is no evidence suggesting there's any way to fix it. Neat.
Additionally, two of my other friends developed heart conditions and had to exit the military due to the problem post-vaccine. It became unsafe for them to have a high heart rate beyond their age range's safe limit. If I could go back, I'd never had taken the vaccine and gotten kicked out of the military. They back-paid everyone they forced out for not taking it anyway, when they decided to remove the vaccine mandate for military members and beg them to return.
Anyway, this person sounds like a stereotypical Redditor, so they probably aren't worth the time arguing with :)

IMHO, we are getting distracted by the details and missing the big issue. I think of the topic as, “What guiding principles do we use to organize our society?” It’s a vital question, one I believe we should all take part in exploring.
People often approach political perspectives (whether right-leaning or left-leaning) through emotionalism or through strict logic. Both approaches have value, but they can also lead to more polarized views when taken to extremes.
That’s why I’d like to suggest considering the idea of a “centered approach.” Most issues exist on a spectrum, with two extreme ends and a center middle. The extremes often carry more risks and unintended consequences, while positions closer to the center may offer more stability and broader benefits for society.
When thinking about which policies to support, it might be helpful to reflect on a few questions:
* Who might be harmed by this policy?
* Who might benefit?
* What personal fears might be influencing my view?
* What personal biases might I need to be aware of?
By taking the time to reflect on these, we might move toward more balanced, thoughtful policies that work better for everyone; not just a select few.
Just some thoughts I am having. How about you?

When thinking about GOP policies, it might be helpful to reflect on a few questions:
* Who might be harmed by this policy? - Everyone not rich, straight and/or white and/or christian.
* Who might benefit? - Anyone rich, white and straight.
* What personal fears might be influencing my view? - Being killed because I'm not straight.
* What personal biases might I need to be aware of? - I don't think people should be allowed to be assholes without suffering the consequences of their actions.
See?
Easy peasy.

Yes. But it's a bit simpler than that. Which party advocates for the erasure of an entire group of people? Which party has made it clear they believe trans people, gay people, should not exist? Past that, if doesn't really matter what their other policies are...there Is NO COMPROMISE. Period.

That is true. I am concerned that as a society, we are becoming more polarized; more divided into in-group and out-group. Examples like the right versus the left; the gays versus the straights; the wealthy versus the less wealthy; those in power versus those out of power. The idea of who is right, or who is wrong; becomes immaterial as violence (emotional, physical, institutional) becomes the norm due to polarization. I am also unsure how being the civil group when another group wants to annihilate your civil group works for the betterment of society. This only seems to lead to annihilate of the civil group. But violent conflict between groups only leads to the destruction of social trust and eventually instability. I once read a piece about the founding fathers of the United States. It said the repeating European wars were a major reason they wanted a way to resolve conflict without destruction; a way to accommodate conflict and change peacefully. It occurred to me that any society has rule to determine what is normal. Some societies use Rule of Power (like a king), some use Rule of Law (a more consistent set of rules, but almost always twisted to help those in power at the detriment of those not in power). I see history telling that our species is less violent than in the past. But IMHO we still have a long ways to go. And IMHO we will only advance when all individuals give up trying to exploit others. When individuals stop trying to twist the rules to allow them to 'win by any means'. But this will only happen when everyone stops being afraid. For fear seems to cause the justification to 'get them first, because they are planning to get you". Just some of my rambling thought.
You are quite correct on all counts. And my concern, is that I have seen scientific studies done on the brains of self-identified "conservatives," and "liberals." There is an observable difference in the structures of the brains of these two groups. It is not clear the causality (beliefs causing brain growth differences, or vice-versa). But the fact that there are significant differences turns a philosophical/sociological issue into a genetic one.
As we have said for years with homosexuality (and the great, broad spectrum of sexuality) - there is a demonstrable "nature" component. It is not simply a "choice," as so many homophobes would like to believe. If the same is true for political/sociological views, does that mean nature WANTS fearful luddites to continue along the genetic tree? And if so, will we ever overcome the hatred and fear that holds us back as a species?
Perhaps we are simply too short-lived to adequately assess where we are in the evolutionary scheme of things. Blink of an eye and all of that. I can say, that after finally being able to marry my love, to face the prospect of having that taken away again by closeted fascists is a crushing blow to my faith in the human condition.

That touches on major question of human existence. Did you see my latest post?

Cool if we print some of our own for those of us not going? If so, want attribution added or more of them? Can print these by the boatload to give out.

Holy shit @ all the dipshit fashies outing themselves lmao. get the fuck over yourselves. Have you literally read nothing Rukis has written, or are you just so dumb you can't grasp the obvious metaphors? Rukis' writing is a lot of things but subtle isn't one of them. This should not be a surprise.
Glad I found this post. I've been on the fence about maintaining my Patreon membership. This has really helped me reach a decision.
The vitriol expressed by Rukis and in these comments is applingly unacceptable. It is grossly contradictory to a major theme of the RLU, that people, even those who are involved in and aid the slave trade, are often a victims of circumstance and simply trying to get on with their lives. Meaning their humanity, even if your killing them, deserves respect or acknowledgment at least. Nothing like that is being shown here. Some of it is outright delusional.
I do not tolerate people in my life, whether they agree with me or not, who act in this way. It's one thing to disagree and try to convince another of your position. It's something entirely different to dismiss another's opinions, views, lived experience by insulting their being and demeaning their humanity. I'm sure some will suggest this is necessary to achieve their goals. That is nothing more than a childish rationalization. You don't make friends and allies, win them to your cause, treating them like crap. Which is why some might want to ask themselves, is it really their cause they're trying to advance.
In any case, I live in a free market capitalist society. I can choose who to associate with and what I want to do with my money. I still might buy the books. I do like the stories. Two guys figuring out they love each other and then having to deal with that fact is a compelling theme that Rukis does well. But that will be on a case by case basis. I will not be maintaining my Patreon membership, and not paying every month. It's sad. But the only morally acceptable course of action.
